Well today is not the day either. While my foot is RED, HOT, and very ouchy, Doc doens't want to send me to the hospital unless I start a fever or just plain get sick suddenly. He knows that If I go in, I end up in there for more then they bargained for.

All I can do meantime is keep it elevated and shovel ice on top of it. I'm tired of layin around. I need to move.

Here is the Mayo Clinic's take on cellulitis. It is bacterial, not viral.

Hope they get yours cured soon, Ross. It happened a long time ago for me, but I remember what a pain it was.
Please don't remind me. All I need is for that to hit the blood stream, take a trip to the aortic valve and set up shop and I'm done!

SOrry to hear of your latest trouble. Sending prayers, hope tomorrow brings some improvement.

Ross, I thought you might like to know that according to Medscape cellulitus often gets worse with treatment before it gets better.

Bob/Christina, I read that Mayo article. It's pretty informative. I searched for references to viral cellulitis on the web and found that the only references are all tied to the smallpox vaccination. Every other reference says it is bacterial. I wonder if Christina's Dr. Hancock means that her infection is not cellulitis at all but rather some viral infection (or maybe you were vaccinated against smallpox recently?). Not treating a bacterial infection with antibiotics in a patient with a prosthetic heart valve is pretty risky business, so he must be very confident in his diagnosis to recommend supplements instead.

Ross,

You are in my prayers. You sure are having a rough time. I can't offer any advice about this, but I can send out a prayer for you. Take care and try to get some rest. I know that it is hard not being able to move around and just lay. Hang in there. Best wishes.

Lets say it's a mutually agreed upon risk. He knows when I go in, I tend to pick up things from around the hospital and end up in there for a lot more then I originated. There is no good move. If I go in, I want a PICC line or forget it. He's against that and the heart valve, so we play this down to the wire I guess.

Hope this gets over quick Ross...

Hope this gets over quick Ross...

Just wanted to pop in for a few while I had the chance and see how you were doing....I see where you said you don't just like sitting or laying around...your like me, I have to have something to do and move around. I am thrilled your not in the hospital, and pray that it stays that way....Harrybaby:eek:

Ross, it frightens me that you are not on IV antibiotics yet.....I had a plug put into my hand and went twice a day for the IV hook up; 3 days later the flaming red infection calmed right down.
Best wishes:)

I have a friend whose husband had [some] organs transplanted a few years ago because of cat scratch fever. He has an infection in his arm right now at a stent site and finally went to ER last night because the medical people who were treating him were just fiddling around and not even changing the packing daily. I don't even know if he was given antibiotics. He has staph too. His wife is beside herself.

I know you know what to do Ross. And you know what your system can and cannot tolerate. But can't they come to your house, if the doctor orders it, and put the IV antibiotics in? Isn't there a way to treat this "outside the box?" Take care and please let us know how you're doing.

Sure they would, if I wasn't on a medicare HMO. My wifes plan paid last time, but this HMO won't. Got to love insurance companies and the thought process of those that run it.

Oh my gosh , I am just trying to catch up with things and read this thread. Ross, clearly you hurt your foot because you were out thee kicking a**!

Seriously though, sure hope that you and the docs can find a way to treat this effectively SOON. Isn't there an appeal process with your HMO? Of course when you are ill, it is hard to fight any battles.

Hope to hear good news from you soon.

Hon I could appeal, but to go through the appeals process.....well I could be dead before they'd give a decision. I'm happy with things the way they are although it is dangerous. For me, entering a hospital is far more dangerous then doing what were doing.

Oh Gees man...you are good at keeping us all worried sick about you...
I pray to God that he has big plans for you and knows you are needed here for many many more years for we all love you very muchly...
Take care dude and get rid of that nasty germ on your foot.
