They want to send my Dad back to the same rehab

Thanks all.

I am usually pretty thick skinned, belong to an MS forum for yeaars and there are always a few people who say hurtful things to others. But mostly the board is great. This reallly bothered me though as I really am unable to go , when my Dad does come home to NY I will be taking him to thereapy and appts and helping him as much as possible with whatever he needs. I'll cook for him, but it won't be any better than the hospital food:D

Today I also called the Florida Quality Assurance and talked to a lady there. She took notes and gave me info to go on.

They are keeping my Dad at the hospital another day, something with a large volume of urine.

When I talked to the nursing home administrator I was very firm in my concerns, he had the unit manager call me right away and she was not aware of all that went on. I told her anytime my Dad complains about not feeling well, they are not to tell him its anxiety and leave it at that , but to call his doctor in. And that he is not to be left alone in the shower. And that they must have the correct medicine and dosage for him.

Also the administrator said we can set up a phone conference with nurses, all involved with his care, my Dad and me and my brother.

Agiain thanks for support, know I will have questions when he comes home on the best way to help with his recovery.

I LOVE the firm talk you had with the Nursing Home. That puts them on notice that you won't hear of any nonsense with your dad, and hopefully, nothing more bad will happen there.

Pam,

I would go one step further in regards to his trips to the shower:

Ask (TELL!) the Rehab Manager that you want him to be supplied with a Shower Stool (they can be found in any Medical Supply Store, or even Walmart). Even a Plastic Stool or Plastic Chair that will fit into the shower would work.

Standing in a Shower the first couple of weeks post-op takes a LOT of energy that many patients just don't have.

Also tell your dad to raise only ONE arm over his head at a time (or have the aid hold the shower fixture).

I hope you / your family will be successful in finding a better facility. In the mean time, hopefully their care will improve, knowing they are under observation.

Remain Vigilant !
