I remember reading a post on here on where to get test strips cheaper... I can't find it now, I will be paying myself for awhile (or forever) so if anyone has a place you buy more cheaper, please share... I can't wait until I get the machine!!! Thank you!!!!

You'll need to google the internet -- e-bay, amazon, for starters, and some medical equipment companies, but you have to negotiate around those because they typically sell only to medical providers.

Suggest you set up a PayPal account. The only way I could pay for the ones I recently bought on e-bay was with a PayPal account.

I can't find the post. Perhaps someone else can find it for you. I think it was something like Caflin Company. In any event, this place was selling the monitor for a discount and the strips were at a discount too.
Unless someone finds this for you, I'll try again later.

Blanche

It's Claflin Equipment. Here's the link for INRatio:

http://www.claflinequip.com/Search/?catid=885&category=INR+Testing&filter=&bc=827+885

But there's a notice that this is sold only to physicians. You have to find a round-about for this. Perhaps AgilityDog will jump in soon. This is where she got her INRatio tester.

FDA Controlled Medical Devices

FDA Controlled Medical Devices

All,

Please keep in mind that medical devices and the supplies to keep those medical devices functioning are all controlled by the FDA.

The "cheaper" supplies and devices out there are commonly NOT sold and/or distributed through the proper channels.

PT/INR strips can only be sold by FDA licensed and authorized companies.

When the feds sit down and discuss their agendas, I would rather not have ValveReplacement.com mentioned on their list of action items.

ValveReplacement.com does not sanction the purchase and/or distribution of "bargain" medical devices and/or supplies in any manner.

Years and years of effort has gone into making home testing available to all of us. Please use only authorized companies as your source for home testing needs.

If the price is too good to be true - should you trust your life to the "bargain"?

Hank, I recently ordered 2 boxes, total 24 INR test strips from QAS. It was a hassle. I first was billed $624! I finally disputed the bill as a double bill and got Visa to knock $312 off my credit card, but it wasn't easy and nobody at QAS apologised. I still was paying $13 /strip. A friend from vr.com ,when he heard about my plight, referred me to Clafin. ( As you know, I am a doctor approved by the DEA for schedule 2 drugs) Clafin sells a bulk pack of 48 for $242! @ $5.00 a strip! So, we cannot blame our gang for shopping around a bit. The " bargain" strips work quite well according to friends at Hemosense. Raytell-Phillips also has some lower prices. Warm regards, Marty

Medicare strip coverage?

Medicare strip coverage?

Alice and I are both on Medicare. We did not want to go through the hassle that Medicare requires and decided to pay cash for strips and not seek reimbursement. However, there is now a way to get Medicare to pay.

Are you saying that it is possible to get Medicare to pay for strips without having to use an approved "Caretaker" and without the necessity of doing weekly testing (and reporting)? If so, please explain!

'AL'

Al, that is exactly why Alice and I have not applied for Medicare reimbursement for strips. The red tape was too much for us. We will be even happier when we next order those " bargain" strips.

Marty, we are in the same boat with you and Alice.

Marty, we are in the same boat with you and Alice.

Albert and I both test weekly. He had his valve replaced and I have a-fib. We are both on Medicare, but we have chosen to pay our own way since 2001.

There are so many hassles with Medicare just getting simple doctor visits paid. Al's already had three strokes. Home testing takes us less than ten minutes a week for both of us. We self test, but do have our internist available for any problems that might arise...like an INR of 9.5.

But, and this is a BIG but, I would consider having Medicare cover the test strips. It would definately depend on their requirements. Do you have information on this?

Kind regards,
Blanche

Blanche, Marty, Al..

Blanche, Marty, Al..

I decided to 'try the system' and have put the wheels in motion to get a machine going through QAS and my Medicare Advantage plan - Humana Gold Plus which is an HMO..:D

I will keep you updated on how everything works out or doesn't work out..!

Ms. Jane, if the HMO denies you, play the trump card that they must provide the same services as traditional Medicare. ;)

Thanks very much

Thanks very much

I would be interested in an update from medicare. Knowledge is power.

But, we already have a wonderful INRatio monitor to tend to our needs. We are interested in help with the test strips only. If it works the way that medicare works for the monitor and strips...test weekly, call in to...etc. I am not interested at all ever. Now, if they consider the strips medical supplies, or something like that....where do I sign?

Many thanks
Blanche

It would be nice if they paid for it. Keep us posted.

Reimbursement on test strips

Reimbursement on test strips

When I had United HealthCare 2 years ago, my policy covered DME (E1399), but Raytel did not use that code on the test strips -- this occurred after someone at Raytel said it DID use E1399 on the test strips. Then I learned that I had to pay 100% for the test strips. I could have gotten a discount paying cash upfront instead, had I known.
I called UHC about the noncoverage and was told that it covered ONLY diabetic testing materials, not those for INR testing at home. Yes, it covered the tester, but not the testing supplies.

I have not asked my current insurer, Aetna, if it covers testing supplies. Just easier to hunt for the best price and buy them myself rather than deal with the vendor getting paid.
