Thanks Nancy, but I was just wondering something. On both lists "Slim Fast" is listed. They are talking about the drink that comes in a can right?

I have had Slim Fast way before OHS........say about 7 years ago - could this have caused my valve to go crusty?

As I read the list it is for "Diet Pills" not drinks.But there is an herbal diet pill called SlimFast, maybe this is the one. I hope Slim Fast replies to your e-mail. I would be curious to see their answer.

No one can actually tell ... we had the problem, but these pills may have aggravated it, or ? but from experience there are others on this forum who mentioned having taken diet pills before their surgery.

All my life, I was told by cardios that I might live for the rest of my life without the need for surgery...or maybe I might need it in my 80s! Stupid me, I wanted to be thinner than I was, I took Meridia, which is supposedly internationally known to be safe! next echo showed severe on both valves!!
Who knows. This is in the past, I will advocate against them to all I know and leave it up to the person.

Of course they will deny it, or say that their name was listed by mistake and they are trying to do something about it.

Anyhow, I hope we are wrong and that they are safe for the sake of mental peace of those who used it.

I just searched the FDA recall database for Unilever (parent company) of Slim Fast Diet Drinks/Bars and as of today there had been no recall actions/warning letters or seizure of product. That is not to say that it cannot happen in the future.

I do not use it anymore, nor will ever recommend to anyone, Lyn

My doctor at the time agreed to give it to me as my BP used to be lower than the normal...so I felt great on it in every sense

Thanks for the info Nancy. I stay away from those diet meds. Thats why I'm here in the first place. I took Pfen-Fen back in 96 and it really messed up my heart valves.
