Pre-Surgery Symptoms
As far as symptoms go, I only had shortness of breath when I would go running. I was running 7:30-8:00 miles at the time, so my pace was reasonably quick. I could lift weights, swim, use an eliptical machine, hike up mountains, climb stairs, rollerblade, bike, and surf without any SOB whatsoever. However, when I went running I would get chest pains and would almost start to wheeze within a few blocks.
As far as other symptoms go, the most serious was that I woke up a couple times with nocturnal dyspnea (waking up gasping for breath). However, I had several other minor symptoms that I only know were symptoms because they went away after surgery. One of them was that I was constantly warm and would begin sweating whenever the temperature rose above about 75F. I also had an uncomfortable feeling in my lower neck that made it difficult to wear t-shirts (not a choking feeling - just uncomfortable). Hope this helps.
