I am having a pacemaker implanted on Tueday the 2'nd. I am feeling quite anxious about it. I am taking injections of Lovenox, per my surgeon's directions. I already have a mechanical Aortic valve. I am sure I will lose a lot of blood, with it being so thin. The injection site (my stomach) is bruised something awful. While shaving my legs on Friday, I accidently nicked one of them. It is still bleeding. How much blood do you normally lose in a procedure like this? Thanks for your input

I guess you are bridgeing with Lovenox. Have you stopped taking your Coumadin? I am sure the ADoctor will have you stop the Lovenox 12-24 hours before the procedure so no need to worry about blood loss during the procedure. You say you are still bleeding since Friday from a shaving nick on your legs? Get an ice cube and hold it on there till it stops bleeding. Once it stops you can gently pad off the water. No reason to keep bleeding, if that doesn't work you need to get a septic pencil. They are good to have for shaving nicks. I use one all the time when I get careless and in a hurry shaving. Good Luck with your procedure.

Thanks Randy, That information eases my mind some. Yes, I stopped taking my Coumadin last Thursday. I started the Lovenox on Friday and my last shot will be tomorrow morning. My surgery is Tuesday. Best wishes for the upcoming new year.

Hi Phyllis Jean,

And Happy New Year!

I don't think you have to worry at all about excessive blood loss during a pacemaker implant....1) You have been bridging with Lovenox and are stopping it and 2) Pacemaker insertion is a relatively minor surgery with a relatively minor incision.

I had a pacemaker implanted while on Coumadin due to my AVR. I was brdiged with Heparin in the hospital as I was already there. There were no problems whatsoever.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Joann is allergic to Heparin . Cleveland Clinic will replace the battery with the pt of 2.0. She had no troubles at all. She can not take Lovenix since it is relaterd to the Heparin.

Still living and clicking and pacemaker still banging away!

PJ,

Good luck on your surgery on Tuesday ... thoughts/prayers coming your way....
