Completed all my test @ Mayo rochester, mn. And met with my surgeon Dr Kevin Greason again yesterday. I took his first available date, monday march 23rd. He will attempt to repair mitral valve, replace portion of aortic artery(dialated), sew up para cardial sack, and burn some nerves to correct rhythm.
This is my 2nd OHS, 1st one 18 years ago, replaced aortic valve. I think this one is much more difficult and riskier. Mayo really is thorough, had an echo earlier in the week took over 2 hours ! Yesterday a cath. for right side of heart. They gave me drugs to see if pressures in lung would go lower. Which they did. That means after surgery my pressures will be lower and surgery should help that problem. And by giving me those drugs during surgery it should lower my risk. The test that found the dialated aortic artery was a blessing. Do not think my doctors back in mississippi would of found that problem. There plan was to replace the mitral valve with a mechanical only.
I would reccomend Mayo to anyone with an health problem. They look at the whole body. And they work so very quickly. This week I had so many test and saw so many doctors in such a short time, 4 days. Walked out of recovery yesterday after cath @ 4:00pm. And saw surgeon @ 5:00 same day. I know of no place that works that fast ! Yes I am worried about my surgery. But do think if this is about the best place to have my surgery done at. Hopefully I can report back to you of an sucessful operation.
