On Tuesday, we were giving the annual reading TAKS test to our students (the big one that partially decides if they are ready for the next grade). Even though I am a Math teacher, I have to cover everything on my walls - you never know what might give them an unfair hint, you know! So, my son and I covered everything Monday evening, but when I got to work Tuesday morning, a couple of things had fallen - humidity and tape don't mix! I quickly stood on the nearest desk and fixed everything, even stepping from one desk to another. However, when I went to step off the desk, it tilted and the desk and I fell quickly to the floor. I hit the desk with my butt and scraped my arm down the edge of it. I now have a bruise about 2" wide from my left elbow to my underarm, a large spreading bruise on the top of my left butt cheek (4-5" in diameter) and a large bruise on the back of my right calf (I'm not exactly sure how that one came about!). None of them really hurt, they're just ugly. The students are quite impressed by the one on my arm, which is the only one they've seen.
It's one of those "practice what you preach" moments. How many times have I told my students not to sit on the desks?
Fortunately, as Gina questioned, there was no one else in the room, so at least I wasn't extremely embarrassed. However, as we are now in short sleeve weather, I'm getting to tell the story and laugh at myself!
