45min each day..covering much more territory!
3wks postop yesterday

(almost 3 weeks since surgery) As the weather here in London is so bad, (although, believe it or not, we have less rain than Rome and we have a hose-pipe ban so as not to waste water, it has rained all day) I walked around the supermarket while Steve chucked stuff in the trolley. I wear a pedometer that counts your footsteps - and I only managed a measly 1700, so that means more walking out in the rain later this evening as I want to do about 3000 each day at the moment. My problem is that as I walk it jolts my ribcage/shoulders/chest and I get soooooooo sore. If it wasn't for that I could do a lot more walking - I have plenty of puff & energy.

I walked (and rolled) for 1 1/2 hours through "Taste of Cincinnati" which is a huge food festival here in town. I am still unable to put weight on my foot so I am using the rolling walker thingy instead of crutches. I would never have attempted the festival with crutches.
As it was, it was a lot of work and it is very hot and humid here today. I am sure I more than walked off any food I tasted.;) :D

walked to my boat in the driveway at 4AM this morning went fishin drank my holiday weekend quota of Coors Light(3) got a lot of sun and caught this Redfish:

Of course how hard was it, they were everywhere and hungry:

Walked around a strawberry festival out in rural Bedford County.

Later today (when it's cooler) will walk my yellow lab Sadie along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Ain't walking wonderful?

Oh Randy..what fun!!

My husband would be insanely jealous!

I walked 3 miles today. It took me under 54 minutes. I started out at 60 minutes a couple of months ago. I hope to greatly improve that time over the next few months.

Only 3 city blocks...

Only 3 city blocks...

Well, I walked today, but not nearly enough. I'm 2 weeks post-op and feeling so good that I overdid it yesterday (2 mile walk, grocery shopping, a few errands), so today I'm pooped and taking it easy. I managed a 3 block walk to the dry cleaners and enjoyed every sun-filled step.

Kristine

PS A lovely early afternoon nap followed the dry cleaner jaunt. Recovery is a beautiful thing.

I drive to a local school and walk 4 times around the outer lane of their full size running track. Isn't that a mile?? Was doing 8-10 laps last fall, so have a ways to go to catch up and then surpass that. I know it's not much, but when I get back to Curves when the sternum heals, it's a gentle way to get me back in touch with things.

RobHol! How lucky that you are so close to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I grew up taking trips up and down it as a child. Lovely. My father said that they engineered the Parkway perfectly to traverse it at 35 mph (I'm guessing) without ever having to put your brakes on. What a lovely ride that would be, if, of course, now one else was on it!!

Randy...great photo! Cooker.....haha...that's our speed. JimL, abit too slow for me.....Sunday's are like that though!!

Thanks, Der. Appreciate you sharing your enthusiasm.

Marguerite, I think that the outer loop is about 3.5 laps per mile. The inner loop is typically 4 laps per mile. It's good that you walk the outer loop so you don't get run over by the speedsters. I like the outer loop cause I'm slow and the turns aren't so sharp.

I am so proud of those of you who are actually exercising. I know what I should be doing but haven't done it yet. Only 9 months since surgery. Wouldn't want to rush into anything. Eating, unfortunately, has become my exercise of choice. I am really trying to talk myself into taking better care of myself. I find many excuses not to do so. Maybe soon I will actually listen to me and do what I know I should. Make sense?

Leaving in about ten minutes to do what triathletes call a "brick" workout: one hour bike ride followed by a two mile run. Getting ready for my first race of the year in three weeks.

Walking

Walking

I walked for the first six weeks post surgery. Since I have walked the 1 kilometre to and from the train station each day. I swim a kilometre each weekend, in addition to at least 3 gym visits each week. I must say since surgery I have been much more diligent with exercise and it appears to have paid off with my reductions in prescription drugs, I would rather exercise than take drugs. :)
