The odd one out!

The odd one out!

Hi Ross and all the other VR members, first of all I want to thank all of you for being here for me whenever I've needed you. I'm one of the few in this forum, if not the only member whose native language is not English, and never once did I feel ignored or made fun of. There have been a few occasions though when I've felt like expressing my opinion on a particular topic, but simply couldn't do it, not because I thought I shouldn't, but I just didn't know how to begin writing it in English. What I'm trying to say by that is that I voted YES for I think that we can learn so much from one another as long as we don't try to impose our personal opinion on the other members but instead of doing that, exchange ideas and information on the various subjects that come up. People are different so, it's only natural that their opinions also will based on what each of us believe to be right or wrong. What would things be like if everybody thought the same way?!! Pretty boring, I suppose. Anyway, human beings are a complicated bunch!!LOL!! :)

It started at 11:17 am yesterday and will run for exactly 7 days as set by the board. ;)
My dearest Ross,
Would you mind clarifying what time zone that will take place in?
:p And don't try to hit me; I've had a tough week!

Absolutely!

Absolutely!

I don't think there is ANY topic that shouldn't be discussed, isn't that how we learn? I mean, how can you help make up your own mind on something if you don't know any other side, other than your own?

Religion is my favourite topic and I'll engage in a conversation about it any time. I find it very interesting and I love learning what others believe or don't believe.

Everyone is different, and the only way we can accept people is by engaging in conversation. We're all entitled to our own opinions. Without name calling.

Well almost everyone (with the possible exception of Ross  )

Sorry, had to do it. =)

Ok, just about everyone here is an adult and as adults I think we should all be mature enough to handle STAYING OUT of a conversation that we either disapprove of or will get too bent out of shape over to be healthy and sane.

The two subjects I'm always prancing around in discussions are religion and politics (with honorable mention going to abortion debates) and I'm careful enough to stay the hell away from something that I know will get blown out of hand.

This is the problem I have with censorship on TV. If you don't like it, change the channel. If that's enough, turn the TV OFF!

If you don't like what your kids are watching, do the same thing. You ought to know what your kids are watching and forfeit any right to object to something if you don't.

I've seen a lot of conversations on-line get blown way out of proportion because people don't know when to walk away from a fight. Why do we need to place additional restraints on the "Small Talk" forum?

Granted, if one were to post pornography or obscenity or something else that might violate the rules of the forum of course that should be removed, however my opinions, "good" or "bad" are mine and important to me and sometimes, the might actually be worth sharing.

After all, isn't that why we're all here anyways, to offer our opinions on the medical conditions we are all facing in our lives? Does all converation have to be limited to just that?

Sometimes it's nice to be able to share an opinion on something OUTSIDE Of heart related concerns, we all need a break once in a while and speaking up about something like Mt St Helens or who won the World Series or the 2004 Elections is a means of escape for many of us. We all need the chance to talk about something ELSE once in a while and I'd hate to see that opportunity be taken away.

I have nothing against either subject except that too much talk is very boring.......................

I see no further point to run the poll past tomorrow morning. This poll has produced the same results as the presidential elections. The majority vote is For these discussions. I reckon it will be so. With that being said, anyone offended by these types of threads, beware and perhaps tune in to a different thread.

I sure cannot say that this hasn't been interesting. Tells me alot about the mind set of the people in here. :)

Hi
I voted yes. There will inevitably be moments when political and religous issues meet with health issues including those heart related and affecting (eg health budgets, resource allocation, welfare, research, ethics etc.....) so are these not to be discussed?

How can I learn from that which isn't spoken or written. how can I learn if I'm not prepared to listen especially to those with different opinions, experiences and voices.

Just wondering......???

Just wondering......???

Ross.....I was just wondering if you had voted as yet. Surely as Assistant Administrator you can vote as many times as you want to......

....Now, could this be yet another case of Ohio holding the 'ace' card?? :D :D :D :D :D

Unlike our so called legitimate government, I do not fix votes to favor my side. Yes I did vote. I just need to get my kids and wife to vote too and then maybe just maybe we could swing the majority, but If I did that, so would everyone else. :D

My 2 Cents on this Political/Religion issue..

Hello Friends,

First of all - Good controversy Ross - Way to rally the troops to the battlefield :)

Second - To Janie's point, this is the SmallTalk Forum - It is designed for topics not related to any other forum. Say whatever you want, but be adult about it.

Third - Make sure that the title of every message you submit matches the actual content of your post.

Fourth - If you don't want to read about the subject, then don't click on the message!

Fifth - To those who get offended by any post on this site, don't be so sensitive.. It comes down to the fact that it is a screen on your computer. Is it really worth getting upset about?

And Last of all - I voted Yes.

I voted yes. Often religion and politics do have a direct bearing on health (and heart) issues, so they do need to be discussed.

I wholeheartedly agree that if you don't like the subject of a thread - ignore it! We all have free will, so feel free to use it.

If you have an issue with someone else and feel you HAVE to make a comment, do it in a PM (thread topic aside), but surely we're grown-up enough we can respect a difference of opinion.

I also agree with Betty that it's sad the election thread has had so many posts when other heart-related threads have so few, but as with all the "Small Talk" threads, it's a great way to "get to know" other members.

A : )

Just thinking

Just thinking

Hey don't zillions of people go to church, mosque, synagogue..etc to discuss religion all the time? Like at least once a week.

I don't think the problem is religion or politics, I really think the problem is peoples unwillingness to open up their minds to something different.

Sometimes it's okay to disagree.

Yes to the 4 more years poll

Yes to the 4 more years poll

Everything in life affects our heart so I vote to leave the thread open on valve replacement.com as being appropriate.

Cheers

Now isn't this interesting. The posts are dwindling and dying a natural death. Our venture into the unknown and our adventure into politics has proven to us that eventually the novelty wears off, we tire of it, run out of stuff to say and we move on to something else. And we are still friends. The way of the human mind, isn't it.

"What a piece of work is a man! How noble in reason!
How infinite in faculty! In form and moving how
express and admirable! In action how like an angel!
In apprehension how like a god!"

Bill Shakespeare said that...

It's in Hamlet.
