Clyde is doing well as can be expected . I have a quick question tho . His cardiologist doc was requiring an ecko be done on july 14th , the docs office called on friday and said he changed it cause he wants it sooner july 1st . Before clyde left the hospital they did an ecko due to a high fever with chills and sweating . His cardiologist has seen that one and im wondering why he wants another one done . Has anyone else had more than one so early ? should I be a little concerned or is it rountine ?

Vanessa,

Cardiologist likely trying to set a new baseline so he is informed of surgical success. Maybe the cardiologist is vacation mid-July?

I would possibly be more worried if surgeon was requesting the echo.

How did they finally resolve Clyde's fever?

Gil

They took cultures right away and put him on an introvinus antibiotic for that night ad next morning then stopped it . He didnt have anymore fevers after that. The first echo was requested by surgeon but that was because of the fever issue .

Vanessa,

Therefore not sure why there would be 2 echos done within weeks of each other. if concerned, it might be worth a call to cardilogists office, to ask why echo was moved forward 2 weeks
I am approaching 6 weeks post op and have my 1st echo is scheduled 10 days from now. Maybe your region does things differently.
As a side thought, you may want to request a copy of the echo and past echos, which should show some progression and may help you ask the questions.

According to what you have said, while in the hospital, they gave him antibiotics for a day or so, and then stopped, and during that time or prior to it, they had done an echo to look for signs of infection or endocarditis. I am assuming that nothing like that was found. I think there is a certain time frame when infection could begin to develop if it wasn't totally knocked out by the original antibiotics.

I think the cardiologist has ordered the echo sooner to coordinate with this time frame because he wants to make sure everything is, indeed, still OK.

I would imagine that another echo will be scheduled after this one for the same reason.

I'm thinking the cardiologist is being very careful and that is good.

I agree with Nancy, also if I'm remeberring right, didn't they do blood cultures when he had his fever? I'm sure if anything grew, they would have told you and not stopped the antibiotics the next day. It sounds like you have a good docotr that just wants to keep a close eye on Clyde to catch any problems, especially because of Clyds history.
Beside that, how his clydes recovery going?

Also agree. I had at least 2, if not 3 echos after surgery, with the 2nd (and 3rd if I had 3 - don't remember for sure) being to rule out infection / fluid buildup as a cause for my irregular beats. I'd guess they're just being cautious and trying to continue to rule out fluid / infections. I think echos are the best way to see that for sure.

Sounds like Clyde is doing better after those fevers! How's he feeling overall? Apologize if I missed some updates - you can just refer me back to those instead of re-typing, if you already gave updates. I was out of town w/ no internet all weekend ;)
