SENIOR DRESS CODE

Many of us "Old Folks" (those over 50, WAY over 50, or hovering near 50) are quite confused about how we should present ourselves. We are unsure about the kind of image we are projecting and whether or not we are correct as we try to Conform to current fashions. Despite what you may have seen on the streets, the following combinations DO NOT go together And should be avoided:

1. A nose ring and bifocals
2. Spiked hair and bald spots
3. A pierced tongue and dentures
4. Miniskirts and support hose
5. Ankle bracelets and corn pads
6. Speedo's and cellulite
7. A belly button ring and a gall bladder surgery scar
8. Unbuttoned disco shirts and a heart monitor
9. Midriff shirts and a midriff bulge
10. Bikinis and liver spots
11. Short shorts and varicose veins
12. Inline skates and a walker

And last, but not least...my personal favorite

13. Thongs and Depends

I certainly understand why you're partial to #13, Nancy. I am myself; however, #1,3, and 8 are also in the running for "fave" status! :D

No. 14 -- tattoos on sagging breasts -- those roses aren't very perky looking on an older female.

I am 55 and have recently lost 35 pounds. I bought some new more modern clothes but I feel a little funny about wearing some of them. They seem too hip for me. I am wearing a blue jean skirt to work today for casual Friday and as I was reading the list I was checking myself to be sure I wasn't commiting one of the sins above. I do have an anklet on.

What do flip flops have to do with Depends!??
Totalling dating myself here.:(
That's funny. I, too, remember when thongs were rubber shoes and not underwear.

remember the leather thongs that had two little straps and one for the big toe? They were called Jesus sandals, too - or shepherd's sandals. Wish they'd come back.

No, Lyn, that's not it. They were flat thin soles, tiny plaited leather straps (like in a rubber thong, except really, really skinny straps) and a toe loop. All of them were brown, almost a tan that is kinda dark. You couldn't wear them out. You probly have to be old to know about these. I think they were around in the 70s before you were born.

I researched and found some. Actually they aren't exactly as I described or remembered. They were hippie shoes and introduced in the 60s:

Very comfy and there are bound to be a few on VR who may recall them.

I was coming to ask you if the ones on that site were the ones you were talking about lol,I Do remember them , I had the gladiator type were you had to cross the straps up your legsNOW putting on shoes that tye instead of clogs is too much effort lol

I sure remember them because I always had problems "walking out" of thongs (NOT the underwear) and the toe loop helped to keep these on my feet. The only bad thing is the sandals were really stiff when first purchased and it took awhile to break them in.
