It's a great time of the year!

FOR SPORTS FANS...

Baseball is just beginning.

Basketball is winding down, complete with the NCAA's "March Madness".

Hockey is winding down.

Arena football is in full swing.

NASCAR and other forms of racing have started.

...and on any given weekend, you can literally turn the TV or radio station and see and hear all of the above and more...at the same time!

FOR THOSE WHO LOVE WARMER TEMPS...

...any time the temperatures get above 60 it feels like it is summer. Yet, at the same time, 40 and 50 degree weather still feels cool ... and certainly feels colder than the same temperatures in the fall...after the summer temperatures have warmed everything up considerably.

FOR TRAVELERS...

...plans start developing for road trips and other forms of vacations. I haven't gotten that far yet (though it is looking like a late November trip, after Thanksgiving, through IN...KY...NC...SC...GA...FL...AL...TN etc. is a possibility, along with my annual trip to PA in August), but I discovered one place I MISSED last October, en route home from Iowa, during the last leg of my road trip ... The Field Of Dreams, from the 1989 movie:

I discovered I literally drove right by it on Rt 20, west of Dubuque IA ... dangumit. Course, it gives me an excuse to go back to Iowa sometime ... perhaps this year. It'd be a great "day" trip... ;).

FOR AUTO BUFFS...

...older and treasured cars start peaking out of garages and storage units from a winter of rest. I cannot wait until I get my older 4 MCs out. I've been tempted a couple of different weekends, but with a forecast of dropping temps over the course of this upcoming week, I'm glad I've resisted the urge thus far. I generally get them out in mid to late-April ... so, some Saturday after a radio show, I just might get 'em all out for the first time :).

"Swinging for the bleachers in the 9th inning" ... Michael Martin Murphy ... 'Still Taking Chances'

We let the Corvette out of storage ;) :D and that is how I always know spring is really here. Also, I have driven my Sebring a couple times with the top down and that is one of the best feelings in the world.

The Friday night "Auto shows" are underway at the local Kroger's parking lot. People just show up and line up their "Babies" for people to look at, talk about and just hang out.

The Cincinnati Reds' opening day is Monday - lots of fanfare here about that.

Thunderstorm and tornado dangers are back - the one bad part of this time of year.

It's been a tough year so far for me so I am looking for better times to be here.:D :D :D

This is what I love about cruise nights ... fun to just sit'n'talk.

*pauses*

Course ... I'd rather be driving ;).

Ah, yes ... the Cubs are the visitors in that game ;). And, they are led by Lou P ... who led the Reds to a World Series win in 1990.....

*pauses*

*peers around at Bob and Mary*

Which reminds me ... what happened to your Cardinals tonight? ;).

And, Ann ... well, I don't know. EXCEPT ... this time of the year means perfect weather to get out and ENJOY :).

Cort,
Regarding the Cardinal's loss last night to the Mets, yes, the Cardinals were beaten, but it's only the first game with 162 (?) more to follow.;) ;)
I'm not ready to make any predictions as to whether they will repeat as World Champions, but I am confident that the Cardinals will remain "my" team.  :p

Cort, Cort, Cort....

Mary and I are loyal to the Redbirds even when things don't go their way. I think they'll be competitive this year. Remember, in the words of Yogi Berra (a St. Louis native), "It ain't over 'til it's over." :) :) :)

So, hey, we'll even agree with you the Cubs fan that the opening of baseball season is one of the happiest times of the year. :) :) :)

If your Cubs win it all this year, we will tip our caps to you. Of course, we ain't rooting for them though. :p :D ;)

Cheers,

*grins devilishly*

I wondered if you to RedBirds would pick up on my comment ;). He he he!

Yeah, I know it is only the first game ... after all, we lost today, too. AND ... so did those pesky Sox ... 12-5 ... to CLEVELAND. Oh my goodness. He he.

As for rooting for the Cubs, yeah, I don't expect that you would ... but, I do appreciate the idea that you'll tip your cap to us if indeed we win.

That might be a few years yet, though :(.

It is that time of year

It is that time of year

For sports fans it is that time of the year!

In Australia the football started last weekend, it always starts the last weekend in March. :)

We just had the opening F1 motor race of the season here in Melbourne last month. :)
For those that like 2 wheeled motor sport Phillip Island 100Km (60miles) from Melbourne, last month held the second round of the world superbike championship.
I usually go to both however this year only got to the bikes. :)

The clocks have also just gone back to standard time from summer time in those Australian states that use summer time, the hours of daylight have significantly shorted here in southern Australia as we move into Autumn. :)

*grins*

OME ... it's always interesting to know that other parts of the world are in "opposite" seasons as we are ... he he.

My SO (Chris) is a HUGE F1 fan and gets so involved that I watch with him just to see his reactions. Melbourne looks like a beautiful city. Chris has been there; I have yet to see it other than the glimpses during the race.
