I was certainly out to it through the operation.
No one else has mentioned it but I was only pre-meded when the
lines were inserted in my neck to measure the heart pressures during the
operation. This wasn't some type of oversight as the doctors doing it were
talking to me, at least they covered my face so I didn't see what was going on.
As no one else has mentioned it, the doctors in the US must anesthetise you before this is done.
It wasn't painful just a pressure on the neck similar to a cath.
The last words I remember after this was done "it's time to go to sleep now"
I didn't wake up until 3am the next morning.
My biggest concern when I woke up was when is the pain going to start.
I was pleasantly surprised there was no great pain.
Don?t worry the doctors involved in the operation have had plenty of practice at anesthetising patients, I am sure they haven't had any patients wake up.
The operation is obviously a big deal for the patient however for the doctors it is just another day at the office.
