My XS is about 10 years old and I will be using it until it no longer works or the strips are no longer sold, which is what happened to the Alere INRatio that I bought first.

I got caught up in the INRatio recall too........and I had just bought a new INRatio off Ebay.......which I had to throw away............ the strips are no longer sold, which is what happened to the Alere INRatio that I bought first.
I've gone back to my doc's INR lab XS for testing. I'll let his lab fight the supply issue battles.

The InRatio was a dangerous device, and was recalled by the FDA for good reason.
Results were inacccurate for some (many?) people - myself included.
I trusted this dangerous device. I was getting 2.6 -- I had a TIA (or a stroke) after a few weeks trusting that thing, and the hospital's INR was 1.7.

I now trust my life to my XS (and XS Pro) -- proven devices that provide accurate (within a few percentage points) results.
I wouldn't worry about an XS recall - until (or unless) Roche chooses to discontinue the meter, and starts (if they plan this) to make the newest strips unusable in the older XS machines -- in which case, they'll probably do it with a LONG warning period.
The Roche is a long proven technology, has been used in millions (billions?) of tests, and aside from a few recalls of bad strips, has a very clear record of accuracy.
I don't think you have to worry about a recall - or recalls with little or no warning. Your lab shouldn't, either.
If you want to go back to self testing, an XS should be a good choice.
(IIRC - the InRatio had a period of MONTHS before it was about to ship strips - the strips were not approved by the FDA, and the meter was recalled before strips became available. There was little or no warning about the recall, and no compensation, IIRC, for those who already had an InRatio meter).
I can't imagine a company as large as Roche leaving the owners of the XS out on a limb - it's not just the self testers who will be affected, but also labs, doctor's offices, clinics, or other providers of testing who would be effected. A company like Roche wouldn't do this.

( sort of speaking ), I probably will buy the InRange just to have two, so i can take one with me when i travel with out worry too much if something happens during transport; But i agree with you about the ones used in labs and mine that is only personal; Thank you again.

Weather aside, it's probably good to be near enough to Niagara Falls to be able to walk into Canada to get meter and strips. It may be good to be in the upper North end of the U.S. - perhaps with cities just north of you where you can get your meters.
It may be good to have a friend in Canada who can buy the meter for you, and send it to you.
I'm not sure how many of us have that luxury.
Personally, I have a spare. I'm not exactly sure why - I haven't heard of XS meters breaking. I don't do much traveling -- and if I did, I doubt it will be for more than a few days. In my case, I probably don't NEED an extra meter, but it's nice to have one to fall back on if I ever need to. (I DID have a case a while ago - purely user error - where I removed a code chip from my XS and put it into my Pro (which remembers the last chip inserted even if it's removed) and put the chip back into my XS. I was getting errors, using the Pro, then realized what was wrong with the XS (this idiot forgot to put the chip back into the XS)
FWIW - I don't know what SelfCareDepot (a sponsor here) charges for the InRatio (I think he said he'll have some in a few weeks), but I saw that Reliaston has them, apparently in stock, and if you use the code Savewithreliaston, you get 10% off. If you're REALLY in a hurry to get an InRange, and you can't wait for SelfCareDepot to get them in, this could be an alternative. Or, of course, you can look elsewhere.
FWIW - I don't work for, and have no interest in Reliaston. For me, they're just a second source for my strips. When I need new strips, I'll check out SelfCareDepot first.

I’ve done all my orders so far with Reliaston and just placed another order for another box of 48 strips. $229 US dollars shipped. I test twice a week and sometimes more (pending sickness or med changes). Reliaston has always been reliable for me. The new batch of strips already shipped and they’ll have an 11/2025 expiration.
IIRC, Reliaston's code for 10% off (savewithreliaston) didn't seem to expire. Your strips from Reliaston might cost even less if you use the code.
The code probably also applies to meters.
If SelfCareDepot's prices and expiration dates on the strips match or are better than Reliaston, I'll probably give them a try the next time I'm in need of strips.

And to be clear, my post isn’t intended to push anyone to use Reliaston or to push anyone not to use SelfCareDepot. I’m just relaying my experience. Both places seem good to go from what I’m reading.

I've only used Reliaston once and had a good experience with them. I suspect that others here had good experiences from SelfCareDepot. I suspect that when eBay still allowed sales of strips and supplies, SelfCareDepot (as they said) was who many of us were actually buying from. IIRC, there were few, if any, user complaints from those who bought strips.

I can tell you that quite a lot of us are more interested in the stability and financial sustainability of this forum.
Do not take this place for granted; the alternatives are crap like Facebook and Reddit. If you've tried them you'll know what I mean.

I actually think the site was better before there was a sponsor.
The most annoying thins was the tab at the top with Black Friday Deals.
I think there's a limit to how commercial this site becomes. Having a strip supplier listed as a sponsor is a lot less intrusive than 'Black Friday Deals.'
