Sylvia, what a great idea about that bed! That way if someone wants to really chill out without feeling left out they have a place to go. And what is the capacity again...7, 8, or maybe it was more than that!:)

As Betty wrote, great idea, Sylvia!

Hmmm....perhaps the capacity on that bed is 10....but, well....ahem....I prefer just 2 ;).

LOL!

I hope all are enjoying the stay in the Waiting Room. I hope the new TV system carries VR.COM Sports good enough for ya ;)

Hi there,
Just popped in from the SO's waiting room (annexed to the main one), which seems a little on the empty side at the moment. Shame as I make fantastic apple crumble. Don't know if you have this in America but it's beautiful especially hot with ice cream or custard - mmmmm! So let me know if you all fancy some to try :)
Going to hospital with Jim for his pre-op tests on Monday and the waiting is killing me - just want to be there now to ask all the questions under the sun! No doubt it'll all seem much better once we know what's going on exactly. It seems a bit strange to me that we haven't met the surgeon yet and he's doing the operation next Thursday, all being well. So if there's anything Jim feels uncomfortable about it'll have to be sorted pretty damn quick! Don't even know if he gets a say in what valve he'll be getting - just been listening to the samples on the CarboMedics site and if they're accurate I don't think he'll be wanting a Sorin Biomedica one - got a strange after-squelch to them:eek:
Anyway, no doubt everything will become clear on Monday...
Maybe one of these days Jim'll find his way into the waiting room too. He's been peeking in the window all week and MAY make it inside to say hi before the operation. ;)

Hi Gemma, my mouth is watering for your apple crumble. Make yourself totally at home in our waiting room.

I listened to those valves pre-op too. It was basically how I picked out my choice of valves. I figured if I was going to be listening to something for the rest of my life it should be pleasant. I liked the sound of the carbomedics and the St.Jude. My doctor was planning on using the St.Jude and that was fine by me. Most of the time I can't even hear it anyway. For me the sound is not a problem at all.

I hope everything goes well at Jim's pre-op and you get all your questions answered. This will all soon be over.

It sure is nice to have company in here. . .

Over the latter part of the summer and early fall, I hardly spent much time here. The issues on the home front have settled down some, so now I'm trying to get back to a more normal lifestyle (as if I ever had one. . . )

Cort, the one thing we didn't spec into the room originally that I've thought about adding is an 802.11b wireless "Hot Spot" like some of the coffee shops now have. Then all of our residents in The Waiting Room can use their notebook computers (and handheld devices) without needing those nasty blue network cables and such. That can be fun to set up -- got one here at our office and it is neat.

We also have some larger picture windows so that we can sit in comfort and look out onto some of those pretty fall and winter days without having to bundle up like the Michelin Tire Man.

Live music would be great -- I love to listen, but can only carry a tune in a bucket. I'm a fan, not a participant.

As for the bed, well, I'm not sure the hotel will part with that one, but maybe we can find our own. Anyone have one they don't need?

I think we'll be fine for the winter, so let's start getting ready for the holidays here.

would you be willing to post that recipe, apple crisp is a favorite of mine and any diffrent way to fix it i know i would just enjoy would love to eat it now,but had by tooth pulled by oral surgeon today and all the happy medicine had worn off but i think granbonny left some here in the waiting room and i snatched it up because i just took some and i think its kicking in ooooHa:D

Steve,

Excellent idea! I like the "Hot Spot" concept :). Outstanding work!

We do have a Hot Tub, don't we? ;).

Ah......and I do like picture windows!

Now...as I asked before, who ordered the decorations? Are they on the way? Gotta be sure to start decorating the weekend after Thanksgiving :)

Nicole,
Hope your tooth is feeling better (or I should say the space where it was!).
Now everybody, time for a cookery lesson - get to the kitchen!
Apple crumble is one of the easiest things in the world to make, and so nice it's definitely worth it! It's a recipe my mother told me and she got it from her mother (not sure how far back it goes actually but very traditional recipe).
First of all you need to get some apples - either cooking ones (about 4)or slightly overripe eating ones (6-8ish), depending on how sweet you like them. Stew in a pan with a little sugar and water until they're nice and soft but not too gloopy. Then put them in a casserole dish (ie something you can bake in the oven) - the apples should take up a little over 1/2 the dish).
Next, put 4oz plain flour, 2oz margarine and 1oz white sugar (or 2oz brown e.g. muscovado if you prefer a crunchier topping - this is the way I make mine) in a bowl and mix with your fingers until you get it to the consistency of breadcrumbs - not too fine and don't worry if there are some lumps as it makes it better in my opinion!
Put the crumble mix on top of the apples, and bake in the oven at 180 C until golden brown - 30 mins or so.
If you're like me you may want to make more topping in which case adjust the amounts accordingly - this recipe serves 4. Or 2 if your names happen to be Jim and Gemma!!!
Eat and enjoy!:D :D :D

Waiting Room

Waiting Room

I think I'm going to be in the waiting room forever! It looks like we have those with dates and those without. I am a non-dater, but we have so many scheduled for December it seems. Best of luck to all of you, after surgery drop in and give the non-daters the updates. It seems there are new techniques all the time.

Steve, do we have a DVD player? I will bring in some movies if we have one.

Hey Francesca,

Glad to see you still hanging around, still in the waiting room, no less. Hope things are well for you.

Marcia

I have an extra futon we can use. I will get my banjo tuned up and oh!! Here I go, I'm now playing "Breakin' up Christmas" (the Tommy Jarrel version) now folks, don't hurt yourself dancing!!
:D
Actually, my waiting has been made more bearable by the date that has been set for my catherization!! December 2nd at 10:00 am. Woo hoo!!! One step closer to a surgery date!!!
(and to a scary catheterization!!!)
yum, apple crumble. I'm going to have to make some now!!

What have I been thinking?

What have I been thinking?

Why don't I supply us with a 40 foot luxury diesel motorhome as the official VIP Bus for this waiting room. The good news is WE ARE THE VIPS. What do you like foe interior colors?

A 40ft motorhome sounds like a great idea to me. Think of the psychological benefits. I assume it will have slide outs and all. I can handle driving a 27 foot class C motorhome, but may need a few lessons to drive something that big. Kathy H

Hi BVDR

Hi BVDR

Hi BVDR,

I am still in the waiting...it seems as if my valve(s) swing from better to worse to better. I am finding a new cardiologist since I cannot seem to get a difinitive answer from my current doc. I asked him about what was going to happen to me and my valves, the only answer he gave me was it's not going to be the valves that gets you...its gonna be the heart failure....Some answer huh?....Harrybaby666:D :D :D

Harry,
I'm sorry to hear that you have a crappy Cardiologist. I had one for years who didn't tell me ANYTHING. In fact, he barely talked to me at all!! (But he did hold extensive conversations that I couldn't understand with his colleage right in front of me!!) I left there crying every time!! I'm glad to hear you're on the lookout for a better one. I finally got Kaiser and my new doc is great!!!

I don't know about this whole tour bus thing.... aren't we supposed to be resting??

;)

valves /chf

valves /chf

Hi Harry, I worried a bit about you when I read your last post about the cardio saying it won't be your valves that get you , that it will be the chf!

I am certainly not a medical person, but it is my impression that having a bad valve or valve's can actually cause the chf, at least make it worse..... I really hope that you can get to someone else soon.

I went back and read some of your other posts....it is a shame if you are not getting care due to getting medicaid!

Perhaps there is an agency nearby that helps disabled folks get what they need? The one near me is called Resources for acessible living. Or a community action agency that might advocate for you?

Anyhow, just some thoughts on your behalf.

Take care

Hi, everyone.

I was only recently diagnosed w/ AI, TI, Sinus Bradycardia and Chronic Bronchitis. I also have Lymphocytic Colitis, (which is in remission thanks to Asacol). I've never smoked -- no more than Bill Clinton, anyway -- so I don't know how I could have gotten COPD. Maybe I spent too much time in Beijing!

My LV is only mildy dilated. I've had a Cardiac MRI, Stress Test, Contrast Bubble Study and echo which show a moderate amount of AI and TI. I've been experiencing symptoms similar to mild CHF, hence all the tests.

I'm under monitoring for now, and will probably be in VR.com's Waiting Room for a very long time! Only God knows.

Peace,

Hi Enudly, Nan

Hi Enudly, Nan

Hi Enudly and Nan,

Isn't it awful the lack of care that a person on medicaid gets because of needing assistance. I honestly hope that everyone else on this website does not have the kind of medical care (LOUSY) that I have in the Rochester, New Hampshire area. I do thank god that I have been smart enough to be able to decypher what my current cardiologist has beat around the bush about, and I have found that it is now the time to find someone else who will be straight forward with me. The reason I say this, is that we just found out 6-7 months ago that my father needs a heart transplant, and we were all stunned beyond all recognition when we heard the news. I don't want to be surprised like that because it is a horrible way to learn bad news. I have been dealing with my health by trying to stay on top of it, and learn as much as possible, and even though I do get frustrated as everyone does from time to time, I do feel as if it helps me cope better...Thanks for your caring and I hope all goes well in your lives and health issues. Take Care, Harrybaby666:D :D :D

i think were in the same storm

i think were in the same storm

I can defiently agree with you about medicaid ,I know if i would of had some other private insurance my heart and lungs would have been taken care of a long time ago.
I am still in the waiting game and i should have never had to start,my heart and lungs are worse off now than they were two months ago.Like i said before if you dont stand up for your care nobody will and thats what im finding out.
So on wed. I will be seeing a whole new group of cardiologists, and I will be going in there with facts, a copy of my tee, echo and cath. and I am telling him straight forward, you can see whats wrong with my heart and I want the valves fixed and the issue with my lungs to be followed and a plan to have it all done, because im starting a new year off with a blessed one.
Please continue to pray for me, I do go on wed and I plan on coming home with a surgery date and a plan to get it all tooken care of before the new year! Im so weak and sick I know I cant keep going on like this ,Iam only 28 and have a life waiting for me.Thanks guys for everything I will continue to pray for all of you

nicole,
Good Luck on Wednesday!! I hope you can whip those guys into shape!
