Quinceanera for my Tissue Valve

Today my bovine aortic valve turns 15, which puts me officially through the longevity window. The literature on this has these types of valves lasting 10-15 years. So I guess that means I’m now playing with casino money. Although I’ve noticed recently noticed they’ve changed that to “10-20 years.” As with my portfolio, I hope those numbers keep going up.

I’m always interested in how my fellow tissue valvers are doing and encouraged to see others who’ve shown staying power. Some have gone even longer than me -- @Squashplayer comes to mind. And naturally I’m always interested in the latest TAVR data, hoping never to get carved open again, but knowing it’s a very real possibility.

My last checkup has the valve holding up strong, “sounding good” in doc’s words. Still ride the bike and exercise 4-5 days a week, and otherwise living without restrictions.

and what a great bit of sharing that is such a lovely tradition

there is the probability and the statistics, but what actually counts is what the great dealer hands to you. I'd enjoy it and love every minute because (in reality) none of us know what'll happen next (keep an eye off the phone when crossing the road ;- )

Congratulations on beating your "longevity window". Now when you go see your docs they will treat you a little differently and will be a little more open to your input.

Keep up the exercise and healthy living. One of the factors which correlates with delayed SVD is keeping blood pressure controlled, and exercise is a great way to do this, so by all means keep it up.

Love to hear this. I have an Inspiris Resilia valve just put in 2/2022 at Loyola. Keep going strong! Let's get those stats past 20 years! And go Bears!

@Dano64, the surgeon at Northwestern who worked on me --Dr. Ed McGee-- is now at Loyola. Just wondering if he's the guy who did your surgery. And da Bears ain't goin' nowhere this year, although Justin Fields does show a lot of promise.

My surgeon was Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz, who I would highly recommend. He did a great job on me. Agreed on the Bears. wait til next year!
