1. From the time your cardiologist said you needed to get the surgery done and when you actually got it done...how long did that process take?
About 2 weeks
2. How long were you in the hospital afterwards for?
4 days
3. Were you in a lot of pain after?
No, not bad except for the momentary pain from coughing or sneezing. In the hospital, they were very serious about pain control.
They constantly asked how the pain was and if I wanted more or less medication. After about 10 days, I didn't take anything for it.
4. Were there any complications with your surgery or any complications after?
None.
5. What were the weight restrictions you had afterward?
No lifting, pushing or pulling more than 10lbs. for 6 weeks.
At 8 weeks, this was raised to 20lbs.
At 10 weeks, which will be August 10, no more restrictions.
It's important to follow the rules with weight restrictions. You have to let your sternum heal. If you don't.......big trouble.
6. How long was your recovery? How soon after were you able to get back to exercising and a normal life with no restrictions?
At 9 weeks post-surgery, I feel recovered and I'm exercising as hard as I can within a heart rate restriction that the Cardiologist
placed on me. max. 145bpm.
7. Did you have OHS or is there other ways they can replace the valve? I just need my valve replaced (now at least) bc there is no aneurysm yet..I know I had read online they can go in from the side or something.?
I had the OHS. There are possibilities for less invasive methods which would require less time for recovery.
Thank you![/QUOTE]
