:confused:I have been taking Crestor 5mg and my doctor wants me to take this Q10 100mg to help with the leg cramps. Does anyone take this and has it worked for you? Just something else to take! I am sick of pills!!! and I don't really take that many as others do.

The herbalist where I buy my vitamins from recommended I stop taking Q10! I am going to ask my cardio on Wednesday, which will be my 3-month post-surgery check-up, and this is one of the questions on my list.:)

i used to take it along with zinc and fish oil,but i stopped because i need surgery and dont want to add any unkowns! but saying that if you google it,it does seem to have a benifit for the heart and there are studys on line to verify it, mens health also had anarticle which claimed it to be a wonder supplement backing it with study results! but i would ow run it past a cardio before starting anything at all

Q10 is depleted by statins. Taking Q10 if you are taking any statin drug is well worth it. 30 to 100 mgs is the usual recommended dose. Q10 functions as a vitamin, and is very important in several cellular biomechanical processes.
It has been fairly well researched. If my memory serves me correctly, one of the big pharmacutical companies was in the process of making a statin containing Q10, then decided to pull it, because that would have admitted that statins do have unpleasent side effects.

If you would rather suffer from leg cramps and other aches and pains associated with statin side effects, then don't take "one more pill', otherwise simply add it to your crestor.

Eva, I would be more concerned with the "herbalist" who suggested you stop the Q10.

I do not take statins, but I take 60 mg of CoQ10 a day anyway. I figure that it can't hurt. I wish my husband would take it because he does take statins.

Thank You all for the information. My cardiac lipid nurse gave me the idea to take this Q10 because I was having small side effects from my crestor. But I need to stay on crestor a little while longer in does work with diet change it has brought my LDL down from 188 to 108 in six weeks. He wants my LDL to be 70 or below, so with diet change and crestor I have also lost 12 pnds. That was before Thanksgiving, I think I put some back on! ughh but I bought me some Q10 yesterday 75mg and will try it. Eva please let me know what your doctor says about it. Thanks :)

When our cardio put Tyce on Simvastatin this past August, he also told him to take 100 mgs of Coq10 daily. He did so and has had absolutely no muscle pain from the statin drugs. Hope it helps.

My husband takes 100 mg a day as it keeps his BP nice and low (combined with exercise and a low sodium diet). He is on no other meds and has been taking Q10 since 2 weeks post-op. The dog gets it too since it is an anti-oxidant:)

Forgot to mention that I have been taking it for gum inflammation and it resolved after 3 weeks. The dentist couldn't believe it. I am taking 100 mg a day. For gums the dosage is 120-190 mg per day but since I only weigh 103 pds the 100 mg are enough. It isn't a cheap supplement but we are happy with results.

I agree with you ... I am not going back there, or I may go and correct her information.:p she was supposed to be the knolwedgeable one, so I believed her and I took the bottle out of the basket but I wrote a note to myself to check with my cardio, because deep down I was not convinced...I did not think of posting the question here:D I used to take it regularly before surgery and was happy and was disappointed when she said that. Thank you.:)

I have damage from Lipitor - took it for a couple years; it worked well but I could barely walk. Stopped it and eventually cholesterol went back up so dr suggested I try again; I did. Then was more or less crippled. so I refuse to take it again.

My cardio's physician's ass't suggested coq10 but I didn't give it enough of a test to know if it would have helped me. I just decided I never wanted a medicine that crippled me and will take no statins again. My cardio said this was ok and that some people just cannot take statins. I take Zetia and some things like fish oil, flax and watch what I eat. Doesn't help the numbers much, tho.

I wish you well. I know how you are suffering with the cramps.

I've had some difficulties with statins but they want me to try Crestor- just a tiny dose. I'm on 1/4 pill twice a week, with Q-10 daily and have no pain. This was my husband's (he's a cardio) suggestion and so far it's worked ok- although I wonder if such a tiny dose can do any good!
