Although it would be comforting to have the surgery closer to home, I think you should go the best facility and the best doctor, even if it means traveling, if it is not too much of a hardship.
I flew home less than 1 week after my surgery last time, and I hope to be able to do the same this time. My surgery is scheduled for Feb 22, and my plane reservation home is for Feb 27.
