Beer is yucky to me, I like hard liquor. My INR is at 3.2. Not too high, a little over therapuetic range, but I am not to worried about it. As for the hard liquor, I like margaritas and bloody marys and long island ice tea. YUM! Take it easy Bonnie...Still get a kick out of your avatar! How cute!

Hi all,

My little 'self regulating worked perfectly. I take 6-1/2 mg a day. INR shot up to 6.2. Cut my dose in half for one day. In the meantime had a few salads and resumed my 6-1/2. Just tested a perfect 3.5:D Yipee!

Update on my high INR of 6.5 (Monday night) and Tuesday morning 7.8. This was even after eating lots of spinach.
I called the doctor Tuesday morning and gave him the 6.5 results. He instructed me to skip the Coumadin 3 days. I just skipped Tuesday. I thought with an INR of 7.8 I can skip one day. I tested again on Wednesday morning it had dropped to 2.2. So you see I drop real fast. I called the doctor again Wednesday morning and he instructed to continue the normal dose. I tested again this morning and it was up to 3.2.

My word Christina 7.8. Have you been out in the heat? Like myself, you would have been perfect on cutting it in half for one day and loading up on the greens. My guess. It's would have been 3.0 ish.

I tested again yesterday, and I dropped from 5.0 to 4.41 in a week's time, by decreasing my dosage from 40 to 38 per week; I'll continue at that level this next week.

Jackie, my coumadin nurse, was "treed in" yesterday because of the ice storm we had, which brought down limbs and trees in abundance. Thus, I had a veinous draw for the first time in a year -- I have been so spoiled by the Coaguchek she uses!

Christina and Gina,

Christina and Gina,

I was glad to hear that you both got your INR's under control! I was worrying about ya both, (now that I got to meet you both in person, I can worry about you, right?).

I'm fortunate that I no longer have to worry about such things, but even I figured out in my short stint on Coumadin, how certain things would affect my INR and how to get it back to where it was supposed to be for me. It seems most people catch onto how their bodies react to different things and what works to regulate their own INR's better than the docs!

pt's / INR's

pt's / INR's

The fact that so many of you seem to battle with your diets surprises me. I have been on 1.5 mg daily for a little over four years now. I wounder how many of you are trying to CONTROL your PT's by altering your diet up and down. Rather then keep your diet steady and adjust the meds IF needed.

Highs and Lows

Hi!! Gina and Rich, and all you guys I don't know!! What a stitch it was to read your forum.

Gina, I have to thank you and you don't even know WHY! I took your advice about 2 years ago, and started "helping" my INR by diet. It WORKS! I had an 8.9 in March, did skip 2 days, but mostly brought it down with diet. I never would have believed it, but you kept giving your testimony and you are so right!! I use it all the time now. Had a 5.6 yesterday, so had salads two days in a row. Like you, I don't skip days anymore, (except for the 8.9)... just use diet and readjust.

So good to see you all here. The tone is very light, and seems like a happy family still.
Mindy
