My Mom always told me about her little sister..Baby Ruth...that was a Blue Baby.Born around 1927..There were 4 older sisters..that ran thru the fields in Alabama and always had to wait for her. She died at the young age of 12... Just think, she could have lived in our modern world of heart problems....  I have heard the word Blue Baby for many years from my Mom...but, you are the first to say that.Bonnie

I have always been curious as to the causes of our valve problems so I thought I would try doing a poll. I've not tried this before so please forgive me if I mess it up.

Please post what is presumed the origin of your valve disease.

Thanks,

Betty

Hi, I just wanted to thank everyone who voted. I think the results surprised me a bit. I know it is not scientific and I know we actually have a few more who have Marfan's around but I think it does show congential problems as our leading culprit with rheumatic heart disease as second.

Thanks again everyone.

If I could have voted I would have voted Congentital ..born in 1960 with complicated ToF ..even today I am occasionally referred to as the village's Blue Baby ...my parents took no photos of me as a child as I was so blue and my mother used to tire of people telling her I must be cold and to put more clothes on me. Now that I am a mother myself I realise how tiring and worrying life with a child who was as ill as I was must have been like ...people often tell me what a hard time I must have had as a child but I think back to my childhood with pleasure ...my Mum and Dad were great and I had a happy ,carefree childhood only slightly marred by long hospital visits and ops. My parents were told when I was a baby that I might see three but I would never see five ...I celebrated my 45th birthday last month ..so I reckon how ever long I have left I have done considerably better than my first prognosis .
Take care everyone
Scottie
