Well we went and looked at the apartment they found and I have cried all night. I have so counted on it being okay for our family and it wasn't. I loved the apartment but I would not have felt safe in that complex. Maybe I would have, but not for my daughter and granddaughters. I guess after being in the same house for 23 years maybe no place will feel safe. 21 days until Christmas and my heart is broken. I hate feeling like this. I try to be strong but then I just break down. Blood Pressure this morning was 188/88. I guess I will see if the doctor can give me something for depression to get me through this. Sorry for venting and thanks for the prayers.

Sue, I know it is disheartening to be in the situation that you are in right now, but at the end of the day, you are all together and that is what matters the most. When I was 7, part of our house caught fire from the dryer. We had to stay in a hotel for 3 months...the "we" was 4 kids and 2 adults in 2 rooms at the Holiday Inn in the middle of winter. I'm sure my parents thought they were going to go crazy. We kids had a fantastic time though. I loved being able to go to the restaurant after school and ordering a snack. All my friends wanted to come and have sleepovers. Believe it or not, as adults, we all look back on that time fondly.

Thanks Kim for sharing your story about your fire when you were small. I guess we will end up at Best Western for the next few months. I am already getting tired of restaurant foods but you are right, my grandkids love it. We also have a bedroom and a living room with a pull out bed at the hotel. We lived in the country and it is always quiet. I am having a hard time adjusting to the noise and not having my own parking space. I know we will survive this. My ex son-inlaw said we could do Christmas at his house. I just miss decorating my house and I love doing Christmas cards and they packed my address book before I could get it so I have no addresses. Everyone at work is excited about the holidays and bringing in baked goods and I can't do that this year. I have not even shopped for anyone except the gifts I need to send to my grandkids in Tenn. Like I said I am just feeling sorry for myself.

Terry, you have my prayers. 8 years ago we had a house fire on December 23 and had to live in a hotel for 2 months. Most of our damage was smoke and water. Thankfully our insurance coverage was amazing, but it is still an emotionally trying time. I found that if I took stock daily of the things I had that were important it made the stress much more bearable. My comment to my husband was that if our Savior could be born in a dirty barn, we could celebrate His birth in a warm hotel.

Thank you Karlynn. I love your attitude. I am trying very hard to only think positive thoughts but it is so hard. Its hard to go on with day to day living like nothing happened. I am taking it one day at a time. But,sometimes I feel like I need to take it one minute at a time.

Pamela, my son-inlaw(and I still think of him this way) is a great guy. He and my daughter are still on good terms. They go to all the childrens sports games,concerts,etc. and sit by each other. He said we could come stay with him but he works all different shifts and I don't want to disturb his sleep. I am not used to needing anything from anyone. I am the one who likes to help others. This is so hard.

Hey, I know this sounds trite, but look on the bright side, you guys all got out of the house safely and are still together. Listen if you need to take everything 1 second at a time to get through this, then do it that way. I live 1 mile from those 480 families that lost their homes in the wild fire here in Sylmar, California. I pray for each and everyone of them every day as I will for you and your family. Maybe between now and Xmas some other apt. or living arrangment will come up. Give yourself a big hug, you deserve it.

Update: They have found us a apartment we like and we are moving in tomorrow. A friend at work brought me a small decorated tree and lighted wreath for our door. My workplace and my husbands workplace took up money for us. We don't really need it so we have adopted a family of 5 for Christmas and they will have the best Christmas ever. We are so blessed with good friends. We should be back in our house in 2-3 months. I am just going to enjoy the holidays and don't stress over anything.
