Ellie, you all and her parents are all in my prayers. Fever is good. That means the body is fighting off whatever she has. Little ones can handle highter temps better than adults. I know that doesn't help the worry part. Prayers sent this morning!

After a lot of tests, the Drs. have decided Ellie does not have the flu. They think she has something called the RVC virus. I think that is right. We have been communicating bt Cell phone both ways, and it has been hard to k now for sure what is being said.
I am home now, and should be getting a call on a land line in a few minutes. Ellie has hit fevvers of 103 twice, and 104 at least twice.
Steph says she has just been limp and whimpering, b ut an hour ago she saw a bird in a tree outside the hospital window and pointed it out to her Mom and did some baby "talking" in response to the bird. WSe are hoping that is a good sign.

I don't know that much about it but do know one of the attorneys young daughter in the office I worked in had it. I believe it strikes younger children and it is one scary virus. She did fine after she had to be hospitalized and they could treat her with the proper meds. He was a smart attorney just dumb enough to not believe in any childhood immunizations and also did not believe in taking kids to the doctor but would take them to his chiropractor father if they were sick. Odd. Can't add more than that but my thoughts have been with her all day.

Evidently it is common among children- spread easily in day care and school) and usually benign except for the high fevers and dehydration. No antibiotics for it. Hopefully, they will get things under control and Ellie will be home soon. She needs to get well for her grandparent's Christmas visit!

Sorry the little one's not well, Dennis. It sounds like she's essentially got a really nasty cold. If it makes you feel any better my kids both had the occasional 103+ fevers. Fevers that high are more common in little ones and they don't seem to have as hard a time with them as older children or adults.
The only thing I know about RSV is that I've apparently never had it, as it is something that the blood bank folks test for that they said most people have and I don't. I was told I could give blood to preemies and immunocompromised others because of this. Others generally do okay with the exposure to the antibodies(?) or virus(maybe once one's had it one's a carrier?) that can lead to their getting the virus.

Dennis, I'm glad Ellie was happy watching the bird. I know a little aout RSV,
it is one of the more common viruses that in healthy kids usually causes bronchitis, ect alot of the kids that have it probably don't even know it because unless they need to go to the hospital it can jst seem like a cold bronchitis ect. and since it is a virus, antibiotics don't help, so they usually just treat the symptons. (i've heard almost everyone has had it by the time they are 2)
I'm sorry I don't remember Ellies age (for some reason, i'm thinking a year and 1/2 Justin was about that age when he had RSV) but i think it is most common in kids under 1 and is easily spread ( when Ellies parents get a free minute to think if they haven't they should call the day care, because it spread alot at day care because the kids put everything in their mouths so they might want to super clean the toys)
Any way most kids do really well, with no long term effects.
The reason i asked you to wait for me to finish this is I wanted to let you know that if you do searches online you might see alot of really scarey things about RSV and wanted to reassure you that for the most part the kids that RSV is so dangerous for is children under 2 that either are born really early, or w/ heart defects or other medical problems that affect the hearts and lungs. but for kids with out these kind of problems, it is easier to treat, and even if they need to be admitted, they are really good these days taking care of it.even tho I know the poor little thing probably feels so yucky and I feel for Ellies parents and grandparents, it is just so hard when your baby is sick.
actually there is a RSV vaccine, but they only give it to high risk children under the age of 3, but it is VERY expensive (like over a thousand dollar each shot it goes by how much the child weighs) AND you have to get it every month during the cold/flu season,
