Here's a better photo of a really beautiful Red-Winged Blackbird specimen that visited the feeder this morning. I hope people will keep posting their photos of birds this Spring.

Looks like a nice variety (if small) so far. We should see how many we could get.

Are there any bird watchers here who could identify them all for us?

A Puerto Rican Pelican

Jean: I guess that's where we get the phrase "lucky duck". Not only pecans, but a guy to bring the water to you. A very peaceful picture indeed.

We were on the Ferry to old San Juan when I saw the pelican. There were some great potential pictures of cranes and other birds, but soon after casting off, our one year old grandson decided to do his best to wriggle out of my arms and explore the boat, and possibly the ocean itself. Therefore, the camera was quickly put away.

This is my favourite time of the year because it brings the rufous hummingbirds. The males started to arrive three weeks ago today and the ladies appeared a few days after so it's all fun and games.

This is a picture from a couple of years ago. Although there is nothing red in the house, whenever the doors were open, in he came. I just happened to have my camera handy as I grabbed him off the bookshelf under the window. Strange thing is that he never panicked when I got close and catching him was easy - he just sat still:

I hope you are feeding them and not shooting them:p

No way! I love hummers. I had one last year that scared the crap out of me. I thought it was a bee flying by my head and then it stopped at the flowers and I got to see what it really was.

That is really an amazing photo!!!! I'm sure those are the ones we get down in Portland metro, too. Our neighbor plants lots of flowers and quite often we will be sitting quietly reading on our deck and just hear one right next to us!! Like a hovering helicopter, in a way!

Are you English? you spelled favourite with the u. ;) I know the English take their gardens very seriously! I'm sure you are very acquainted with hummingbirds! :)

That is one surreal photo of the hummingbird in your hand! I have always wanted to be able to hold one in my hands but never have been able to do so.

My brother had a little next of hummingbirds on one of this trees, & he would hold the little ones in his hands which I found so amazing.

Yes! I'm British, now living in at the base of Mt.Rainier in the PNW.

I've tried to have a nice garden but unless it's in pots on the deck, the deer and elk make fast work of it. We had an area fenced off but a herd of elk came through at night and just flattened it to get to my beans and peas!

I like having the wildlife around so I'm happy to stick with my pots, tubs and hanging baskets.

I'm still trying to figure out how to put a big picture in a post. I uploaded the following photo to my album, click on the photo and then get lost... Any suggestions as to what I need to do next..?

In this photo...the doggie gets a free ride. His owner is a friend who takes his doggies for a ride in this contraption..:D

What kind of crane is this???

What kind of crane is this???

I was doing some work in my office & just outside my window, are at least 100 of these cranes (I'm assuming they are from the crane family?) in our pecan orchard. Not sure what they'r munching on; perhaps worms. :)

A pair of wild Mallards are regularly visiting my backyard water garden. Which is pretty crazy considering the two hunting trained Labradors who regularly come running out the back door! "No Bird! Leave It!"

Most of the photos have to be taken through the window, however, because the whir of the camera on the porch makes them fly off.
