I can identify with the attacks. Never knew what one was until after my heart surgery. And, yes, it was due to realizing that I was a mere mortal and might not make it through the surgery. But, I did make it through the surgery and then went through one of the worst times in my life. Wouldn't go somewhere for fear that "something might happen to me." Made my family turn around and drive home instead of going to a Dixie Chicks concert because I was afraid something would happen to me during the concert and everyone would stare. Oh, that time in my life was horrible.....and it was medication that made things right for me. Panic/anxiety attacks are related to mitral valve problems...read about it....an excellent website was mentioned and a fantastic book....Tell your friend to get help...it's out there....no reason to go through days feeling paranoid and stressed and fearful. Talk to a doctor - the heart dr. should be very familiar with the symptoms your friend is feeling....should have heard it many times before. Best of luck.
