Pacemaker on Thursday 25th

Well, after much thinking, debating and talking with docs, I've decided to get the pacemaker in and get on with my life. They've all explained that it's because of the post surgery bundle branch block and it's a little piece of insurance in case it ever happens again.

My dad is celebrating his 85th b-day today......I plan on being here at least that long! Wish me luck

Hi Lynn

I had a pacemaker fitted post surgery, after 9 days of being paced externally. That was nearly a year ago now. Pre pacemaker I used to pass out regularly, but no more. It took a while to get used to it, both the physical side of a box under my shoulder as I'm very skinny and also the mental side of being battery operated. I'm 100% dependant. But life is good and I have no restrictions other than not to bash the box.
My main advice would be to give yourself time to heal before you go skiing or anything . It does take a while and if you give your body the chance to form its special tissue around the leads and such, there is much less risk of anything moving when you dont want it to.
So my last word is...GO GIRL (AA's - who needs em!)

I echo everything Lotti said!

I have a defibrillator.. and it is a bit bigger than the pacemaker ( my oldest got a pacer at 18)
and it is VERY noticable on me.. but.. I got over it and got on with my life!
My dd's pacer is hard to see

I hope all goes well for you, Lynn. How long are you going to be in the hospital?
Even though you will have it "just in case" I hope you never have occasion to use it from now until you are well past 85.

I was reading a thread this morning by Bill Hall asking about MRIs; do you remember the "Crummy Doc Visit" thread you began a few weeks ago? Could you tell Bill what your docs told you about the wire in your heart and MRIs as he was asking if anyone had some knowledge about that?

My dad got a pacer and it made a big difference with his V-tach and he stopped passing out. Best wishes, Lynn!
