Hi Norma,
You probably already have an answer by now, but years ago I worked for a home medical equipment company that also handled home oxygen, and normal O2 saturation levels are 95 - 100, though I don't know if there's a different range for sleep. I would think it is the same. Hoping your problem is resolved quickly and smoothly!
Best,
Luana

Oxygen Therapy--Starts Tonight

Oxygen Therapy--Starts Tonight

Well, I have just gotten my oxygen concentrator machine & I am suppose to start wearing the nasal cannula as of tonight. I will also be wearing the oxygen monitor on my finger tonight to see the affects the oxygen has on my sleep & oxygen levels.

According to the study done last month, my oxygen levels were below 80% for approximately 4-1/2 hrs. I had the oxygen on for 6 hours. The lowest that it dropped was 73%.

The plan was that I was going to have to wait until Dec. 28th to see what the PH dr wanted to do but the tech called me yesterday to tell me that the dr had told him to start me on the therapy now & then retest before my appt to see if my levels & my sleep pattern have improved.

Luckily, I will only have to wear the tubing during the night because my levels are in the mid-90's during the day. :)

The machine is very quiet, one thing I was dreading because I hated the thought of having the all too familiar sounds of a hospital room, right in my home!

So if all goes well tonight, hopefully I'll be rested enough to do more farming in FT tomorrow morn! .....Bina watch out!!!:p

I hope everything works just the way you want it and need it too Jean. I enjoy reading your post, you are one of the first that I became familiar with in my mind! I wish you luck and will say a prayer that this will solve all your oxygen problems,

Mileena

What model oxygen concentrator? My Invacare is kind of noisy. I had a Puritan Bennet Unit before that was nice and quiet.

Norma,

You mentioned being "stuffy" and "allergies".

Have you ever tried using a Nasal Rinse?

Neil Med makes a good Nasal Rinse kit and their pre-mixed salt packs are Non-Irritating (to me anyway). I just saw one at CVS for $14 which includes the rinse bottle and 100 salt packs.

My ENT guy swears by them as an effective Low Cost and Low Risk aid for people with allergies and/or sinus problems.

'AL'

The tech told me it's one of their newer models Ross. The name I see on the monitor is, EverFlo Respironics. I'm attaching a pic of it for you. I was also left a tank in case the power goes off.

I tried one of these rinses a few weeks back Al when I had a real bad sinus infection. It only worsen the situation to the point I had to go to the dr for antibiotics & a steroid shot.

When I did the rinse, I guess some of residue remained in my nasal passages thereby causing more infection & gunk in there. Even up to 2 or 3 days after doing the rinse, everytime I bent my head down, bloody discharge would come out of my nose! It was terrible!

Unfortunately, I did not have as restful night as I anticipated. :( Reason being that I not only had the oxygen tube in my nose but also the oxygen finger monitor strapped on to one of my arthritic fingers which became really painful during the night. I had to switch it to a different finger because of the pain.....I know, I know, what a baby I am! And, even tho the monitor is suppose to be quieter than other models, it's still noisy when the house is all quiet. It brought back too many flashbacks.

Perhaps tonight will be better.....don't have to use the finger thingy so one less thing to contend with.

Give me one more day Bina......:)

P.S. Molly (my cat) wouldn't have anything to do with me last night! LOL! :p

I'll trade ya. Mine uses more power and is noisier then yours. What flow setting do you have to use? I'm at 4LPM. Here's my ugly hunk of junk.

Oh yeah......that is a BIG clunker! So sorry Ross......I'll just keep mine. Mine's set at 2LPM's. Wonder how much electricity it uses??? Guess I'll find out when I get my bill!

Mine uses 390 watts, yours is listed at 350 watts. So yours, if your only using it at night, lets say 8 hours, would cost me 2.8 kilowatt hours at .12 cents per kw x 30 days= about $11 a month.

Right now, I'm paying about $34 a month, but mines running 24/7/365.

When my dad lived with us he too had a machine similar - louder than a freight train. It came with 30feet of hose, so we put it in the basement.

Norma can you put the machine in a different room?
