I'm so thankful that he made it through the surgery okay. Now it's all downhill. I know it's such a relief for you to have it over. He'll feel better almost immediately. Tell him to rest, breathe, walk and take it easy for a couple of weeks. Thanks for posting and letting us know how he is. You take care of youself too.
 
Very similar circumstances except I am 41. I had the surgery done on 7/26 and frankly, I'm down to some discomfort from the chest opening, but that's getting better every day. I've been walking and even went to the mall with the wife and family tonight. The two worst things were the breathing tube and chest tubes. After the tubes came out of my chest my morale and recovery improved by at least 50%. Good luck and check in on the other side.
