Hi-

I see a lot of older members who come to look. If you have the time, give us a Hi and tell us how you're doing. It's good for the new members to know that life goes on and things do improve.

Plus we'd all like to hear from you. :) :)

Hi Nancy

Hi Nancy

Is there anybody older than me? 76 Coming up on 5th anniversary in September and still feel good.
I think Coumadin is good for us.

Hi Marty-

Poor choice of words on my part. I didn't mean "older" in years, but "older" in membership :D

You're not old anyway. Joe's only a few years younger than you, at 72.

You may be right about Coumadin. Joe's been through several wars with his health, and almost died about 6 times and he's still vertical, much to the amazement of a lot of people. Something's keeping him going.

I'm watching him on the treadmill, while he's listening to Willie Nelson, LOL.

How old do you have to be?

How old do you have to be?

Greetings,

I feel younger! Really! I'm not quite sure how old I should be so I'll be 53 going on 33. It's been well over 3 years since I became a bionic man.

Except for getting an occasional bloody nose (from bad habits and weather), Coumadin and I are getting along very well. I swear that changing weather patterns or storm fronts cause me problems too!

My Cardio finally got a Coaguchek unit and I almost now secretly look forward to my Protime tests. Remember how I just hated going to the vampire bat caves and often skipped tests because I was so afraid of their dang 2" needles?!! No more of that silly game! Annual Echo is coming up end of July. Until then it's work and more work, exercising and loving the golf season.

I often lurk here, but don't have many comments. All of you who do post are doing an excellent job and I hope new people are getting the message. Haven't seen Hank post in ages. How the heck are ya, Hank?

Our now older teens are home for the summer and my wife and I really enjoy their company. We're going to the Bahamas on a short family vacation before they head back to their respective schools. They're looking forward to the freedom to legally drink and gamble on their own. I'll be too boring for them, but plan to enjoy the water life while there.

Kathie and I are very much looking forward to meeting a lot of valvereplacement dot comers at the Chicago Reunion.

Keep up the good work.

Lata,

See how you are? Nancy and I are going to sit back and see who answers questions now. We have to force you people out of the shadows. :D

Hey Marty

Hey Marty

You have me by eleven years so that gives me some hope of being around for awhile.
I know what you meant Nancy, but seeing a lot of us older people with our valves still on this side of the grass maybe will give hope to our younger members.:)

Older members....

Older members....

I?m ?older? than you, Marty... :p and I?m only 42! :D :D Hee hee

Hey Nancy and Bonnie... I?ve been married to an ?older? man for 23 years!

Nancy:
I'm a older member in terms of membership (March 2001) and close to your age, which I firmly believe is still young. (Except when I get the senior discount!) Albert is close to 10 years older than I, but he's the youngest senior I know....most of the time. Like others, I come here frequently but have little to say. Happy to let others conver the topics as they, and especially you, do it so well. Still, if anyone wants me, all they they have to do is whistle. You know how to......OOPS, now my age is showing.
Regards,
Blanche

Checking in Nancy

Checking in Nancy

Nancy ?et al,

Walter reporting in. I am now ten months and eleven days post ?op. I am doing really well and exercising as much as I can. I go to the cardio-re-hab gym about four days a week where I use the treadmill, bikes and strength machines. The hospital is on the way home from work so it is real convenient for me. On the, nice outside days, I will walk for an hour all round the neighborhood.

Coumaden is holding at 3.2 to 3.4 and I have not had any bleeding episodes. I do notice if I nick myself shaving that it takes a little longer to stop, usually by applying pressure, but nothing that I would consider abnormal in any way.

My St Jude is running real quiet and I hardly ever hear it or even sense it. I sleep real well at night and feel the most energized in the early morning.

I really feel great overall and only when I look at the scar in the middle of my chest do I really ever think about it.

I did visit a friend today who suffered a major heart attack two weeks ago. The ?Widow? maker artery was clogged and he, age 51, suffered the attack while doing heavy weight squats at the University. Luckily the ambulance got him to in seven minutes, gave him baby aspirin and nitro. They rushed him to Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, about eight miles away, and he had angioplasty and a stent put in the first hour. He went into afib and soon was placed on a respirator. He was on that respirator for ten days and they finally weaned him off yesterday. He is now out of danger and expected to make a full recovery. What incredible doctors.

So that is the news from here in Lincoln Nebraska. I look at this site frequently and think of you all with great respect.

Walter

Doin' Well Too

Doin' Well Too

14 months post-op here, and continuing to do well. My health discussions with my doctor have once again begun to include non-cardiac type discussions, i.e. blood sugar, my forever-declining thyroid function, etc. I guess, in a way, it's a sign that I've recovered very well, thank you. I'm packing for a trip to DisneyLand tomorrow; this is the trip that we had promised my little girl last year, but the valve surgery pre-empted it. Yes, I have to remember to pack my warfarin, but that's about all the thought I'm giving it.

My INR stays pretty stable if I don't fret too much over the least-significant digit. My prescribed range is 3 to 4 (I have two mechanicals), so I only ever raise an eyebrow if it goes half a point above or below that range. I just don't have the time or energy to chase it, and as a result it hangs right in there (I threw 4 consecutive 3.4s a few months back).

Good to see some of the old gang popping up on this thread. I hope the new folks will take encouragement from this thread, as Nancy intended. Life does indeed go on!

Keep Me On the List

Keep Me On the List

Per the email from Hank, this is my post to stay on the membership list for VR.com. Thank you to everyone for the encouragement. My schedule does not allow me to do much posting, but on bad days it's reassuring to know of hundreds of others who have been down the same "bend" in the road.
