Great News

Great News

Marguerite,

Great news...WooHoo...! I had to congratulate my fellow Oregonian on a perfect outcome..Hopefully 2006 will be a healthy one for us all...Thanks for sharing with us.

Be Safe,
JW :)

I too am sighing relief on your behalf, Marguerite. Benign is definitely good news even if you were wise enough to not worry yet.

Good luck in your quest for a surgeon.

Most excellent news! Time to focus on the next step in the process. I'm hoping the right choice of surgeon will become clear to you after you meet with candidate #2!! ;)

Good news. Glad to know it's over. It has been a worrisome thing. Thanks for letting us know. Also, you learned something while there that you can used to great advantage when needed in further testing (the anesthesia).

Great news, Maguerite- I know you will have a much better day today! Best wishes for your next hurdle and I am glad that you moved up the appointments.

I was very happy to hear this good news. Now my sights are set on wishing you smooth sailing in the next challenge. Please continue to keep us up on the details. You're going to do great!

You are all like wonderful friends. Thank you so much!

I will be back posting after my feb. 3rd visit with the cardio, you can be sure!!

We're having a dash of sunshine today in our otherwise densely rainy, somewhat unusual wintry weather -- I'm off to prance about town with my darling daughter before she goes back to college on saturday!

Enjoy!!

:) Marguerite

I'm delighted to hear that the procedure went well, and more so that the result was indeed benign.

The heck with your cardio visit. When is your appointment to interview a surgeon?

Best wishes,

My question is similar to Bob's. Why are you going to the cardiologist when it's the surgeon you should be seeing?

You're starting to make me a little antsy, Marguerite.;) ;)

Great news. I am so happy for you. Hope you have fun enjoying the sunshine.

Wonderful news

Wonderful news

So glad that the biopsy was negative. Now that is over, get moving on getting the heart surgery over with so you can get on with your life. The beautiful weather is just around the corner (yeah right). You can be fixed and really enjoy the Spring and Summer.

Bob, Mary. You guys are awesome. :D you didn't catch my post. I DID make an appointment with the second surgeon. That office told ME when it would be, Feb 10th was the earliest. I think the only reason I got in that soon was because he had operated on my father! My cousin does angiograms for these guys (same cardiac group -- different hospital, heart-wise, maybe better) this surgeon has been on an annual list of 350 top doctors (10 in his field) voted by doctors, for the last 2 years (at least).

I'm on it!!! Thanks! :D :D

Marguerite,
I remembered you had a second appointment to see a surgeon, but I was surprised that you would be seeing your cardiologist again.
Are you prepared to set a surgery date when you meet with this surgeon? I know that my surgeon told me he would like to do my replacement the week following my first appointment, and the news came as a huge shock. Sometimes we sit in the "waiting room" long enough, that we forget we're actually there for the appointment!:D :D

Hm. Mary. I guess I think that I should discuss my choice of valves with the cardio to get some feedback on the post-surgery life, since she'll be my doctor. My husband has not met her yet and this is part of it. She needs to know that I am moving ahead rather quickly and she needs to order the tests (cath, TEE?)

As far as the date goes. The first surgeon said he was usually about a week out. So as soon as I decide when, he can book it. This second surgeon may be more in demand since he is mentioned every year in this highly circulated, high gloss local magazine. I don't know. I'll find out. I really liked his demeanor when he "fixed" my dad.

My daughter heads back to college saturday. This weekend, my husband and I will really think this through. Our damn insurance deductible doubles  on March 1st, so frankly, why am I waiting when we could spend that "extra" money on a really nice trip somewhere, down the road?? I honestly am to the point where I'm more scared to wait than to have the darn surgery!! I know I'll never get done all that I'd hoped to get done before the surgery anyway, so I really really feel ready!

Thanks again for all your thoughts. Never hesitate! I appreciate all of them.

:) Marguerite

Marguerite,

Have your surgery before your deductible goes up, get through the first few weeks and then finish your recovery on a nice vacation using the money saved.;) ;) :D

Even if you don't spend the money now, you sound like you are ready for surgery. Once you get to that point it will become really annoying to wait.

Best of luck with your appointments.

Marguerite, once you decide on a surgeon, he most likely will schedule the cath and tee (the tee may even be done as part of the operation as it was with Dick). Please don't wait for the "perfect" time for surgery- when it comes to our health, the only "perfect" time is when it NEEDS to be done. When Dick got his surgery date from the surgeon, we had a hard time convincing him that he could postpone a court date he had for that day, but we did.:D Get on with it, so you can enjoy all the years ahead in perfect health!:)

I hope you get the early date for surgery -- I did not need to be referred to a surgeon, my cath and echo reports were sufficient to determine I needed AVR ( and to get pre-certification for it ).

I wouldnt think you have too much to worry about even at the level of stenois you are at. If you havent had clear angina, breathing difficulties without exertion or episodes of passing out and your ejection fraction looks ok -- then you will be fine in the near term, according to the risk assessment in the ACC recommendations. I thnk they should pay more attention to ease and length of recovery from AVR and changes in the heart muscle due to valve disease in those guidelines -- that is what may be affected by staying at severe stenosis and increasing levels of concentric hypertrophy.

I dont think the term 'critical' is appropriate for someone who has not had any 'major' symptoms and is not in heart failure.

They told me I could wait another 6 months to a year at your level of severity as well -- I am glad I had surgery when I did though.

Regards,
Burair
