Thanks for your all your support. I was born with a bicuspid aortic valve. The current problem was discovered through my yearly echo. Also had a TEE a few months back. The one good thing...I am not having any symptoms...still feel great. But...that just makes it harder to have another surgery. Haven't really gotten into the specifics of what is planned. I have another echo scheduled for September. Once the left ventricle enlargement reaches a certain point...the surgery will be scheduled. Can't find a lot of info on the web...apparently not a real common problem.

Sorry to hear. I know all of us Mechanical Aortic valvers buy into the sales pitch that this fixes our problem and we won't ever need another surgery. I know there are many successful 25+ year mechanical valvers, however I think additional surgeries are a common fear that most of us share.

I didn't have the common symptoms when I found out I needed my original surgery close to 4 years ago as well, so I always catch myself holding my breath during my cardio appointments twice a year and my annual echo.

Keep us posted. :)

I would still have had the celebration. Until it is written in cement one never knows what will happen.
As Ross said don't wait for enlargement it is permanent.

Agree with Kathleen...go and have your celebration... a BIG one.....celebrate life....
and then remember there'll be many praying for you

It's amazing the test our powerful being puts us thru - I am so suprised of this happening. I chose the St. Jude as the most sure valve to NOT have to go thru this operation again. I guess we just never know.
Good luck to you and my prayers are with you always,
Carolyn
