Nick, I am starting this early as with the New Year's weekend coming up, I am sure you will be busy celebrating the New Year and the new you that will occur after next Wed. This is a re-do so you know what to expect and have the good fortune of having your friend sail through the same operation with the same valve (on-x) and same doctor just recently. I just know that you will do well and soon be home to celebrate the New Year with your two boys. Godspeed!

Yes, so far I am still on for next wednesday (1/2/08), to tell you the truth I wasn't sure if I was going to bring it up thinking that I would jinx it but I appreciate the well wishes and the prayers. Right now I'm so paranoid about catching a cold or getting a sore throat... anything that would put the surgery off again. My hands are getting chapped from washing them so often.

Can't say I'm not a bit nervous, the extra time just gave me more time to worry. I know I've chosen an excellent surgeon but he will have his hands full. My previous AVR was a homograft so he will be working on the root, the aortic valve, the ascending aorta, and two bypasses. I guess the things I have going for me is my relatively young age (48) and the fact that it is not an emergent situation, and of course a surgeon that is among the best.
