Hi Laura and welcome! I got a brand new pulmonary valve put in on my 37th birthday - and was also a heart kid. It's been almost 11 weeks since my surgery and I'm feeling SO much better. Even my cardio was surprised at how well I was doing.

Prior to my PVR I was having thousands of arrhythmias each day and they seem to have almost disappeard. I also had all sorts of chest pains and aside from incision wounds healing, I've not been having much chest pain anymore either.

I'm curious if you see an adult congential heart specialist, or if you've just been getting by with a GP and regular cardio. Given your history, I would certainly recommend a specialist cardio if you don't already see one.

Otherwise, feel free to ask any questions - there's such a wealth of knowledge and understanding to be found here and I'm sure you'll find it quite a comfort.

Howdy Laura!

Too bad no one's welcomed you yet, eh? LOL, this is a very friendly environment, where everyone is on the same team and going through a lot of the same things. Just know we're all in your corner, supporting you through what will be a trying time.

All the best in the months to come!!

Hi Anna, Glad to hear you are feeling good. I do see an adult Congenital Cardiologist. I hadn't before all of this. I was just seeing a regular cardio before.I am so glad I found him.

What a bday present for you. I am glad most of the arrythmias are gone. They are not much fun to live with each day. I hope you continue on your path of good recovery. I am sure I wil run into you again soon.

I just got done reading Adam Picks book "the patients guide to Heart valave surgery". Wow did I learn alot from it. I spent alot of time on this website today and even am going to encourage my husband to check it out. I am learning so much.

Keep up the good work on the recovery.

Hi Laura,

Welcome! Wow, you have 5 children, I only have one and that seems like hard work for me : ) If you can be a mom to 5, you can do anything, this'll be a piece of cake. I wish you all the best and hope everything goes smoothly with you. Just saw your other post about depression too. I find this site to be a lifesaver because everyone here understands what you are talking about. We are here for you.

Welcome Laura, to one of the best sites on the internet. Sorry for the reason you are here, but you are in the right spot. Ask all the questions you want and your DH can too since we also have the significant others forum that helps them with the questions and recovery times and moods. Yep, after surgery I was not nice....LOL I guess, according to my DH and kids, I cried at the drop of a hat and for no reason and my grandkids actually thought the doctor put the wrong heart in my chest when he closed me up! Took about 4 weeks before I felt more normal and my kids said I was back to being Mom! Just remember to get everything ready before your surgery so that you can reach it when you need it and make sure you rest, walk, rest, rest, walk and rest somemore! I am sure that others will be here soon to add more! **** luck!!! You will feel 100% better when you get home!!!

A late welcome to you! By far the best site for ANYTHING short of surgery itself.
Do not hesitate to ask questions, or just vent.

Welcome from another newbie. I just joined, but have been hearing of this site for years.

So glad to know you are seeing an adult CHD cardio. It really does make quite a difference since they're far more in tune with our problems and what to look out for. From personal experience (and from talking to a lot of other CHDers) it seems "regular" cardios are often quite out of their depth when dealing with adult CHDs.

In the meantime, I hope your surgery helps improve a lot of the symptoms and problems you are currently experiencing. It's great that we're now living in an era where we can access so much research - I think it really helps when you know what is going on, and I'm sure your hubby will also find the information very helpful.
