BLASPHEMY!!!!!

Let's not compare Apples to Oranges!

Chris is looking for a COMPUTER for heck sake... Not a snack!!

Anyway - In response to the Dell debate..

Computers are like a box of chocolates... You never whatcha yur gonna get...

If you aren't going to build your own PC out of top of the line hardware, then get a Dell and buy the best longest warranty they offer.

If you are covered, they have excellent service, but as pipersmith stated, if you aren't covered, then you are pretty much on your own.. It's pretty much the same as buying a car... You get what you pay for..

As for me and my house and my 25 years experience... We will buy a Dell by gosh! :D

If I was an expert with 20 years of experience I would probably be very comfortable buying a Dell. If I did not have this level of experience but had immediate access to someone who did, I would be somewhat comfortable buying a Dell. For a regular guy like myself ..... not so much.

Whoa! Thanks for all the responses to my thread :) I certainly wasn't intending to spark a Mac vs. PC debate, but honestly I have considered a Mac in the past. A year or so ago, when my hard drive failed on this Dell I'm on now, I shopped around for a Mac (even visiting the store you mentioned, Stretch.) I was excited about the capabilities of the Mac, particularly for use with music recording & printing applications but was disappointed with the price. For similiar money I could get a seemingly more powerful PC. However the concept of NOT having to worry about computer virii (for a while, at least) was tempting. It's still a consideration. Another consideration is that my wife uses the machine too, and I don't want her left out in the cold! PC's are what we know, so will probably go with that. I like your quote, Hank, borrowed from "Forrest Gump" - 'Computers are like a box of chocolates....' truer words have rarely been spake.

Fortunately it seems I'm not in as great a hurry as I first thought. We had a 'keyboard error' that seems to have resolved on its own (!) and, so for now, I'll try to hold off a while & get a new PC with Windows Vista on it, maybe. Hopefully even if Vista is 'weird' they'll have a button that can be pushed to make it look more like XP ;) Who knows....

-Chris

There's an Apple store just down the road from you in Indianapolis. If you've never been in one, it might be worth the visit before you purchase a new computer:

Sorry

Sorry

I think I was most responsible for starting the mac/pc debate. I regret my contribution to that argument. Arguing over operating systems is about as fruitful as arguing politics-but less important. I know you will enjoy your new computer.
