This morning early my bank called to say there was unusual activity on the credit card they have for me. I refused take the fellow's word that he was who he said he was because I never give out personal information via phone or internet, so he told me to call back the Ph# on the back of my card. I did. Turns out someone has stolen my credit card #! When there is unusual
activity on your card or activity from some other state or area that isn't yours, the credit card company is automatically alerted and follows through. There are charges from places I never heard of. They will send me an affidavit to sign to assure them it isn't me, will void the current card, issue another one. And these charges are wiped out - no charges to me. Then my confidence began to flag. Wouldn't yours? I called my other card
companies and only the one was invaded, but it certainly affects my thinking for the rest of the day and makes me aware of how vulnerable we are these days. You might want to be sure to check your bills for any charges that are not yours. Seems we are way too vulnerable, aren't we. Just sittin here mindin my business and BOOM - gotcha.

Furthermore, when I got up at 4 I heard either thunder or bombing from AFB - can't tell anymore unless the thunder turns out to be RAIN.

Then as I am sufferin on the porch about the credit card, a train went by at the highway carrying military heavy trucks/trailers headed for Iraq, I guess. A strong reminder of war that I don't want to think about.

Reckon the day will get better?

Now, now . . . you must relax. There are worse thngs; such as: a friend of mine has a girl who's always been difficult. When she was about 20 she snagged one of her mom's cards that her mom didn't use; changed the billing address, and ran up $12,000 in charges before my friend was notified that she been sent to a collection agency because the bill hadn't been paid.

My husband had the same thing happen to him as happened to you. The credit card company was most helpful and the charges were voided and we all lived happily (and more wisely) ever after. I'm not so sure what would have happened if the activity had been going on in our town or online. I'm thinking that the company wouldn't have been so anxious to void the charges.

You have a good day; it really should improve!!! And after all, it's Spring, and you're healthy and wise (I wouldn't know about wealthy) and really neat.

Are you kidding? Someone stole my ss card, and called uswest(now known as qwest) Anyways, I didn't find this out until I had my mortgage lender run my credit, and I was like UH, no, I've never had that phone company. I don't have to pay that bill, and it's being taken off my credit report. Nobody called me on that one...never even knew it existed until I got my credit report. I'm thinking it was my brother inlaw because he was the only one that would do something that stupid.

Ann I am so sorry.

The woman whom bought our house in TN got a hold of one of our credit card numbers and attempted to purchase 2,000 worth of stuff from Staples online. Little did she know the max most places online let you run on one card is 1,999 or less. The way we proved it is she was acting as ourselves by having the products shipped to our old/her new adddress. We informed a few of the neighbors to let them know to watch out. We hear Office Depot delivered a large shipment to the house a few weeks later. Grrrrrr.

It takes time to straighten out. But it will....
Take care.

How horrible, you hear of these kinds of things happening more and more. My aunt and a friend of hers where in a hotel a year ago and a worker at the hotel stole both of there numbers. My other aunt hardly ever orders on line. The one time she did, some one got the number and ordered up a large amount of stuff. Thank goodness for both aunts the person was caught and there good credit restored. martha

Hey Gina,I'm sorry, some people are so irresponsible when it comes to finding someone else's credit cards! Did you ever find out if that office depot package was something she purchased with your card? WHat happened?

My brother in law has a criminal record and has stolen before. HE's been in jail quite a few times too. He got caught stealing a stereo out of a cop car. STUPID! Now he lives with his mom and dad, and he's 26 years old! He'll never leave home because they are too willing to bail him out when he gets in trouble. Pathetic!

Hensylee, you may have been a victim of a group of hackers who got into the credit card systems of one of the major banks. The break-in was only in the news a short time, as the crooks were caught. They may have sold some of the numbers to others, though.

Glad they caught it for you.

Pumpheaded?

Pumpheaded?

Are you right sure you charged those and just forgot:D :D :D Just kidding. you e-mailed me early this a.m...and I replied..:p Bonnie

Feel much better now - first you feel invaded and get depressed - then you get mad and you can't be depressed if you are angry. The day turned out to be ok after all.

The bank card company was sincerely nice. I got my bill today and these charges were not on it, so it must've just happened in the last day or so. Comforting to know they have good checks and balances in place.

ep, I did ask them if this was because of that hacker but they said no it wasn't. They have him/them - but like you, I wonder if some were sold. Lots of ways your number can get out, perhaps - only thing is mine was never out of my own personal hands and it's the only card.

I think in all the time I've been popping in here ...this is the first time you have vented ...very sorry to hear what happened with your credit card ...we lost nearly $1800 a few yrs ago when someone stole my hubby's card and used it to buy lots of goods under a $160 each ..that way the company didn't alert us ...and the police reckon they were then sold on ....because my hubby didn't realise the card was gone for four days we were charged up until the day the card was cancelled ...it was a hard lesson for us to learn when we had three kids and as always bills ...
Anyway glad to hear that your situation has been sorted out ..
Lovely to hear from you ..I hope you are well
Take care

Hi Ann,
I'm so sorry to hear about someone stealing your credit card number. The same thing happened to me a little while ago. My credit card company was really on the ball. As soon as they noticed someone trying to make a large purchase online at a Best Buy, they contacted me. They took care of everything right away. It's nice to know that the credit card companies are on the ball. I have to admit, I check my statements every single month and compare receipts to make sure there is nothing there that shouldn't be. You can never be too careful. It is kind of scarey that it's so easy for someone to steal your credit card number. Modern days of hacking I guess.

Take Care!

Positive experience

Positive experience

My son has been traveling since Sept 2002 in various countries. Until recently he had not used his card for cash advances, but ran short and did so. The credit card company contacted him as soon as they saw these unusual transactions which was difficult as they had to do this thru me as he has no address or phone when on the move.

Yes, we can be thankful when we know they're on top of things since alot of damage could be done before we'd even know it!!!!!

Here's a little funny story: I donated "Harriet the Chariot", my last bomber of a car, to the Boy Scouts (you've heard of them, right? America, Mom, and apple pie?) They towed it off along with my signed title, saying that they would take car of the paperwork. Two months later I get a call from the cops up in Pennsylvania, wondering why Harriet is sitting, abandoned, by the side of the road? I explain it's not my car anymore, go see the Boy Scouts. About a month after that, I get another call from the cops up in PA, this time telling me that Harriet had hit a cop car housing two detectives, and a high-speed chase ensued, and the guy ran off, and what was I going to do about it? Seems that the Boy Scouts just handed my title over to an auction house, who handed it over to the idiot who bought it, who of course never bothered to file a title transfer. Unbelievable. I still don't know if I have a car in my name somewhere....

Even more unbelievable is the idea that Harriet was CAPABLE of a high-speed chase....

Jennie, I can't believe that happened to you. We've also donated a couple a cars to charities; fortunately they were truly dead. Did you ever have any legal repercussion resulting from them not transferring the title?

I have a friend who owned a mobile home; sold it; and a couple of years later had the city coming after her for unpaid taxes because the purchasers had never completed the title transfer.

What a mess.

Hi Georgia,

No, I haven't had anyone show up to cuff me yet. I say that jokingly, but a friend of mine spent a night in jail because of a similar incidence, until he somehow proved it wasn't his car anymore. I really should call up Harrisburg or the MotorVehicle Dept in Maryland and see if they would tell me who owns the vehicle. I'll put that on my To Do list.... UGH, nothing is ever easy, is it!
