For anyone facing Mitral Valve Repair and is actively researching docs to perform the procedure, I wanted to post a YouTube video of the surgeon who did my Mitral Valve Repair a few weeks ago at INOVA Fairfax Hospital. While the information in the video is likely basic to most of those in this forum, I think it gives a good idea of Dr. Massimiano's demeanor and bedside manner. He's very easygoing and accessible. My repair was considered "complex" and yet he was still able to repair it in lieu of replacing it. In addition, Dr. Massimiano's preferable method is what he calls the "mini incision" or minimally invasive through the right rib cage. My procedure went so well that I was discharged just over 24 hours after the operation. I'm seven weeks out and doing very well...no more regurgitation and my heart has basically gotten back to normal.
There are two videos...if anyone has any questions about my experience, Dr. Massimiano, CVTSA or INOVA Fairfax Hospital (IHVI), please contact me directly.
