Well, today he is talking in complete sentences. They gave him some water and larger ice chips, on the heart valve front all is good. If he passes the swallow test today, he will start on puree foods. But the side effects of the mild stroke on left side are a little better. He overheard some loud MD telling my mom he would need a trech because one lung is only doing 30% of something. The other is fine. That got him really depressed because he does not want a trech. He does have the beginnings of COPD, . My mom said no trech, he does not want that. Hopefully soon they will move him to rehab, so he can start getting stronger physcially. PT comes everyday and progress has been good. Upper body is good, left leg is still weak.

Kangy have mom ask about Bi level Positive Airway Pressure. He'd where a mask for about 30 minutes each hour that would force air into the lungs as he breathes in and remove carbon dioxide as he breathes out. That my be all he needs to get the lung conditioned again.
He is a COPD patient. How old his your dad? Is he a heavy smoker or was a heavy smoker? I havent heard of anyone being on a ventilator that long. Hope you have good news soon.
