You can have 2 separate doctors.....your current GP and another only for handling your INR.
Try going through the phone book and checking if another doc will take you on for just the INR dosing.
That's how I met my local doc, I needed him for INR testing.

One hurdle at a time Ottawagal. First hurdle was getting the RX the next hurdle is getting my GP on board and okaying the usage. If not, well.....I guess I might be SOL.

Nothing more frustrating but hey Freddie i'm less hour away if you drive
correct speed limit. Lots a gp's here even mine will take u if i sweet talk
him. Some e-mail and take calls even.

But now i'll start praying for your gp not to be so tight:eek:

My currant GP did threaten me (if you want to call it that) with a waiver for me to sign that would indicate that she would not be responsible for any miss-readings with a home monitor - I really pissed her off that day.
Going through the phone book and getting the monitor will have to wait until I'm done with this bowling event, which will be done July 8th or so. Don't have much time. Even less time now - just found out that our main man on the committee had a heart attack last Wednesday. Had his angiogram this morning and is resting at home. No damage and not sure what caused it.
So much for my Happy day :(

Hey, if you cannot get her to assimilate, TEACH HER! Tell here about this video and that if she watches it, she can get CME credit for it. That's an inspirational tool for Doctors:

If she won't do that, ask her to consult with Dr. Jack Ansell and get his opinion. If she's not going to believe the top expert in the field, you really do need to fire her.

Thanks Ross, I'll do that.....I mean I'll try. She has a thing about patients going on the internet getting information and don't even talk to her about the U.S. FDA

Hope this helps ....................

Hi Freddie,
I think I understand your concern about your PCP.

Your "new best friend" must have hospital privileges and that hospital might have an anti-thrombosis clinic where you could report your readings. This would eliminate your PCP from anything to do with your INR.

Initially my PCP was totally against home monitoring so that's how I got around him. He really is a gem though and now is fully in favour of Point of care monitors.

You'll find a way.

Freddie, I understand and agree that your doc needs to be approached carefully if you want to keep her, but keep in mind that she doesn't even handle your dosing properly. That is a huge "bug in the soup" and could cause you problems in the future anyway..
There ARE docs out there who manage INR dosing very well, I happen to have one of them;
the extra bonus is that he lets me fly solo with my dosing as long as I call him every couple of months and update him.
Hang in there, and in 3 weeks when you have the time, go for it. :)

Yes my Cardio does have hospital privileges.

I made a point of asking about a anti-thrombosis clinic.........a clinic of any kind that could monitor my INR. And although the internet may say otherwise the answer is "no". But my cardio agreed about the Prairies being behind and Ontario has more people and therefore was able to "keep up with the times".

I have the will........this will just take time.

Don't let "the prairies" be a problem.....I live in a tiny farming town, and the local doc read the info and agreed to let me try it.
If you were diabetic and testing daily, would your doc be such a problem too?

Exactly!!!
That is what I said to Dr. Wells (cardio). My words were, "no doctor would ever think of saying a sugar monitor is unreliable and diabetics have to check themselves 2 maybe 3 times a day". He totally agreed. Heck I even showed him an e-mail I received from Health Canada confirming it was licensed. After looking at that, he felt that this monitor had to have gone through many tests to get licensed and having a .2 difference is not a big deal (just like everyone here has said)
The prairies is the problem - we don't have the money like the bigger cities do. Its been 10 years and we still don't have a Children's Hospital.

Oh, before I forget, Thank-you Lance and Bina for all the information you have forward to me. It took a while to get the now famous piece of paper. :)
Thank-you to everyone for the support and information.
Did I forget to tell you?
I got my prescription for a home monitor :D
which is now tucked safely away.
