Ask them about checking out his ammonia levels. It's a special blood test. Kidney infection and other kidney and liver problems can trigger high ammonia levels among other things and that can trigger all sorts of cognitive problems, plus a high level is dangerous. Joe has had that a couple of times in the past. I can tell when he starts to change his demeanor.

Nan had already been told some time ago that UTI can cause confusion - probably the ammonia levels. My dr says hospitalization can also cause disorientation. My bro has been out of his familiar surroundings for 4 months now.

My grandmother, Cort, was a very Christian woman as long as I can recall and at the end, she, too, came out with some shockers.

I hate it when old people have to suffer. When it hits home it's even more hurtful.

He he he....ya know, Ann, they say it is always the quiet and/or shy ones that shock you the most . I think, in some cases and on some levels, anyway, I'd qualify for that, too ... he he he.

Amen! Going to see Gram and Gramps in the assisted-living facility was always bitter sweet. Loved the drive (lasted 1 hour and 15 minutes each way); hated having to _schedule_ time to go see my grandparents ... when I was used to a 10-15 minute bike ride to their home. Loved seeing them; hated seeing the others (and, in some cases, them) suffering.
