Hi all,
Its Andrews wife, Angela here. Just wanted to let you all know that Andrew is now safely checked in to the hospital and we spent the afternoon meeting the anesthetist, junior surgeon, physio, nurses etc. All seem very friendly and confident that Andrew's op and recovery will go smoothly due to his age and lack of symptoms/problems. He's going to take a sleeping tablet tonight to help him sleep and will be up early as he's first on the list. I'll be back to the hospital at 6am so I can be there for his pre-med and then sit with him until they collect him for theatre. He wanted me to let you all know that the surgeon will be using an Onyx valve in the unlikely event that he needs a replacement rather than a repair so thats good news as I know Andrew was keen to have this particular one if necessary.
I think we're both feeling more reassured about the whole thing now and I'll just be so relieved once I can see him post op. They're estimating he'll be out of surgery by noon so I should be able to see him in ICU within a few hours, all going well.
Right, so thats it from me for now. I'll be staying with my brother in Cardiff for 2 nights from tomorrow but will update you as soon as I can get back online nearer the end of the week. Thanks for all your good wishes - it means a lot to both of us. Think I'd better get myself to bed now ready for my early start.
Angela
