Well, a week of fun in the sun in Mexico was certainly a great way to get our minds off of the upcoming festivities associated with surgery on Wednesday. Colleen and I seldom thought about surgery while chasing golf balls, walking on the beach, and watching dolphins play just outside the surf line just off the beach.
We did broach the topic of surgery while attempting to escape the clutches of a condo salesman at the resort when he hit us with a line about making plans for the future. If we had know where the comment about having immediate worries about our future with my heart surgery approaching, we probably would have attempted a different means of escape. The salesman responded by showing us the chest scar he acquired ten years earlier in Venezuela when he underwent emergency bypass surgery (what are the odds that we would get cornered while on vacation in Mexico by a condo salesman who had undergone OHS?). He did have the courtesy to stop with the horror stories about the hospital he had been in when we asked him to stop. There's probably a website for those facing or about to face bypass surgery out there where folks would appreciate the grim details. Maybe the salesman and I can compare chest scars on our next trip to Mazatlan.
Other than the bump with the salesman, the trip was great.
Monday, we'll go to work as usual and make an attempt to finalize prep work to keep school running smoothly during our absence. Tuesday, we'll do our pre-op visit with the hospital blood vampires and meet with family members. On Wednesday at 7:00 a.m. the adventure will really begin with surgery.
Wish us luck. Positive thoughts and/or prayers will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
