Another great comment! I always wondered how others felt about this subject. After the first surgery in '04, I had to laugh because my mind felt so much clearer and open to thought. It made me wonder how I even functioned on so little oxygen. But after the 2nd one last year I cant remember any of the words I want to use. Boy was that "open mind" short lived! I have noticed that in the last month(8 months out of #2) that I am beginning to remember what I was thinking about and also names. So I guess there is hope yet. Just in time to head into menapause and then what will I blame it on????

I am 9 months post op and still have trouble remembering peoples names or some event that my wife reminds me of. One of the worst things was after returning to work as a police officer, of 35 plus years. I kept forgetting my gun and would have to return home to get it. One thing I found that helped was to write myself a note when I needed to remember something. It's funny that I could remember arguing with the pre op nurse that I needed to keep my glasses, as I couldn't see when I woke up, however I couldn't tell you all the folks who came to see me in the hospital after the surgery.

It's the weirdest thing, but I actually feel more forgetful now that I'm 4 months past surgery than right after. Maybe that's because I'm more involved in life now but I wonder! Someone asked me the last name of my freshman roommate yesterday and I can't remember to save my life. I was never good with names and terms I don't use often but this is bugging me. Hope it gets better.

As time goes by, lots of it gets better. Never quite the way it was before, but better. My most annoying memory problem is that I can't find the right words to use in a sentence (mainly nouns) and i've read posts by others about the same thing. I've gotten fairly adept at getting around it with folks that don't know me.
My typing has gotten worse too, lots of typos that I have to got back and correct. I least I don't keep repeating myself.

A thingy I use

when I cannot remember someone's name...talking about them from years ago..I start with the A..B..C's.. Example..A..Adam, Andrew, Arnold, ect..and go thru..and it will come.:D ..My biggest problem was talking on the telephone the first few months after surgery. If it was a business call. I couldn't remember my telephone number..address, ect. Just wrote them down before I made the call.:p ..Now, 4 years later..I can tell you what I was doing 20 years ago, today..but, I don't remember what I was doing a week ago.:D That comes from old age.:p I still dream about things that I lived years ago...Kids old childhood friends, ect...Living on our farm.
