I went to a kiosk at the local mall. They had them in sterling silver for $39. Mine says mechanical heart valve/coumadin.

If an ID bracelet is expected to be worn 24/7 and maintain its good looks, it is wise to
invest in a quality item....or expect to replace it every couple of years.

When a "gold" bracelet is purchased for a low price, it surely is only gold plate;
however, gold plating on a silver bracelet is usually quite durable.

My sterling silver bracelet has a protective coating on it.....it doesn't chip, and doesn't tarnish.
The engraving is deep and is as perfect as the day I got it.

I don't want to sound like a sales rep, but sometimes it's just worth it to spend a bit and buy from a reputable organization.

i agree Dianne,also had a silver one,and that one didnot last long,the gold one faded,completely almost 2 years ago,now course it's 17 yrs.old almost.
Wonder if anyones complained to medic alert?
Sure as heck this new one i ordered likely won't last as long as the gold one
i have.now a hole in it from wear and tear and i paid a good price in 1992
now simple sterling silver was over 200.00 with my membership included.

I got my ID bracelet from medic alert. It's stainless steel I think? Not gold or silver, I would think either of those would fade as far as the engraving because they wear with time.. On mine, the front is coated in something and I did get to choose which color I wanted as far as the Medic Alert name and medical logo, which is purple. The flip side is engraved with the Medic Alert phone number, and says mitral valve replaced, takes warfarin, lists my drug allergies and has my ID number. I never take it off, the clasp is very secure. I am getting a little tired of it and would like something that looks nicer, especially when I am dressing up. I do have a couple of wide bracelets that I wear sometimes to kind of camouflage it. But, I've also kind of gotten used to it and ignore it, kind of like my ticking! I think a bracelet with beading is a great idea, Bina! I would be interested in something like that for nicer occasions.

When you mention the engraving fading.....are you talking about the back?
My med info is deeply engraved with a protective coating. It's still perfect.
And my bracelet came from MedicAlert Canada, I believe it was shipped from Toronto.
If it should wear out in a too short period of time, I would definitely call and register a complaint.

Yes, I am talking about the engraving on the back where all of my medical info and my MedicAlert ID # is. I did call and complain and I also sent an email complaint. I also asked if there was anything I could use on it or clean it with that would make the engraving come back out. They were really very unsympathetic and said "Our bracelets carry a one year warranty. If you have had your bracelet for more than a year, you would need to order a new one."

If you think about it, people have jewelry (like wedding rings) engraved all the time and the engraving does not fade out for years. I even pointed that out to them in my email complaint and said that I would certainly never risk $600 or more for the real gold given the quality of their engraving. They didn't care.

My plan is to order a new new one and then watch it for fading and make them replace it for free at the end of the one year. I am also going to tell them when they ask if I want to make a donation that I can't afford to donate because I have to keep replacing my bracelet since the quality of their engraving is so bad. In fact, I may send my bracelet back to them in their donation envelope!!

Diane, I don't know if you are dealing with the Canadian or American office, but I would not accept the engraving wearing out after only one year.
Maybe there is a consumer protection group that you can go to.?
