When I was elected to our local school board I discovered something that might of great interest to a few of us. After I was elected, I was informed that, as a school board member, I was eligible for the same life & health insurance package that is provided for the teachers. (I would have been required to pay the normal premium).

I didn't take advantage, as I don't need more insurance. But, I immediately thought of many of our members who have talked about their difficulties in getting coverage. If your are interested in public service anyway, this could be a significant perk for some of us. I don't have a way of knowing if our situation is common or unusual. I have a hunch it may be more common than you would first think.

Maybe I will go ahead and run for the school board here. I have been seriously considering it and perhaps there might be an additional reason to go for it.

Thanks for the info.
