We watched her pass this way on Friday as we traveled toward Orlando for my 55th high school class reunion. We watched it's progress these past two days while we were there - even got up during the night to see if it was going to my house in the panhandle. By last night, we knew I can't go home, so I am back at Son's house and changed reservations for going home to Thursday (from Sarasota) - if possible.

The only category 5 I have ever heard details about is Andrew and you all know what happened in Miami that year. This could happen in New Orleans. If you have any direct line upstairs to the Main Person, please put in your requests for the Gulf Coast. We need all you can send.

Where I live, there will be feeder bands which deliver winds and rain every 1/2 hr or so but where the main storm is those winds are steady and sustained for HOURS. You feel they will never quit. When winds are 175 miles an hour or more, your house will blow away and so will everything else. Please pray for us all.

Sending prayers to all of our gulf coast members. We will never forget what South Miami looked like the winter after Andrew when we traveled down US 1. Hope you find all is well when you do get home, Ann!

Camille was a cat 5 and an unnamed in 1935, but its hitting the most vunerable area on the coast.. and there are still some tourist who cant get out. This will be a terrifying experience. I am praying, love the pup

Have been praying for all of you folks down on the Coast - this has been just an awful (and awe-full) year; now this turns up and it's really scary. I'd have been haring out of there yesterday.

Good luck to all. Please let us know you're all right as soon as you can after tomorrow.

I sit here with the storm updates streaming through the room. My husband took our grandson to the playground so I could listen to Hank but I couldn't get the connection....."error on page" : :( .

I doesn't look good. My heart goes out to everyone in that area. Take care and may God protect you all.

I e-mailed my cousin in Mobile early this A.M..she e-mailed back..that she would ride it our..she has 7 Large dogs....Then, around 2 P.M . my daddy called and said, she had called him and wanted to know, if she could drive up there..Poor Daddy..had to say no, due being blind..and afraid he would fall over the dogs..Yes, she's the type of person that would not leave them outside in rain....would want them inside.....I told him not to worry..she should have made plans before this afternoon.....We have cousins that live in Central Alabama .if nothing else..she should load the dogs and go to their homes and stay in Barn...Told Daddy she has crates for them.... I don't know how she can load and unload them...they are huge Rhodesian Ridgebacks..Prized..for breeding..It's her living... Plus, I'm still worried that Daddy will lose his power again..Like Ivan..Brother lives in same town..so he will look out for Daddy.....Yes, let's all pray..this is not going to be good...Weeks, before any normal living again down there..Especially, in New Orleans..Town may be gone.. Also, Gulfport, Bilox, towns along the Miss coastline..and into Alabama near Yaps........and heard that Jackson Miss..many miles inland will have hurricane winds..Next week will be a bad time for all of us..and even going way up into ..Tenn. Virginia, Ohio, ect..I pray that I am wrong..but gut feeling tells me .. that this is going to be something America has not felt..since 9-11.. :( Bonnie

They are evacuating all low lying areas in Baldwin County,I am on a hill and dont flood personally, but right before highway ,does flood, so we will be housebound.
Katrina is going to be bad. My sisters live here and one is so handicapped that we cannot move her,(a leg amputated,no prosthesis) if it worsens she will have to go to a special needs shelter.
My grandkids are evacuated, John and me and my dogs here. Have had feeder bands after feeder bands.. main course in the morning. Will keep updated, if possible. Love Yaps

Sitting here in my cozy living room watching the weather reports of Katrina - I feel so helpless. My heart goes out to all in the areas affected by this horrendous storm. I will be praying for the safety of all...

Awful stuff...my prayers and thoughts w/ all of you in Katrina's path.

Same here -

Same here -

sending prayers and good thoughts to all in the South, that Katrina will change her mind about being a category 5. :( Mother Nature can sometimes be a "mommy dearest" that is for sure.

Also sitting here watching the news and so concerned about everyone on the gulf coast....it will take a miracle to help everyone get through this. I hope that there will still be a New Orleans tomorrow....not to mention the rest of the coast. This may be worse that 9/11 except that this is "mother nature" at her worst as opposed to human nature at it's worst!

Sending all kinds of positive thoughts to everyone in that region, especially our members.

I've been checking a board I subscribe to and have been calling friends in Louisiana. One friend, who had valve repair surgery & 1 CABG in late April, has left her home in the downtown New Orleans area. She went to her son's home on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain, and they quickly realized they couldn't stay there. I had already called a veterinarian friend in Alexandria LA -- in central LA -- and he was opening his "fishing camp" -- a cabin at a lake -- to them and their cats. He was expecting them @ 9 p.m.
A friend in Baton Rouge -- about 1 hour west of New Orleans on I-10 -- reported she's staying put because of very young kittens.
Someone else near New Orleans, I think, got out early today with her cats. Her husband is an air traffic controller and had to wait until they shut down the airport.

People evacuating beause of a disaster often have to decide whether to take their pets -- or leave them and pray for the best. Most, if not all, public shelters will not accept animals. So you must have a carrier for each animal, meds as needed, food, water, litter boxes, litter, etc. -- and some way to house the animals when you find shelter.

I'm praying for everyone along the Gulf Coast who is evacuating. I'm also praying for those who must stay behind -- medical personnel, public safety officers, government officials and the media.

we had Dennis about a month ago and while following Katrina, I heard a blurb on one of the TV channels that my county (Walton) had lost ALL the new beach sand that we had just put back from the loss when Dennis came through.

My thoughts also go to those in Katrina's path. I hope those of you in the lowlands have fled, but that your homes are spared in your absence.

Looks like Mary may be in the path, Granbonny's family, and probably others who haven't posted. I wish you all well.

Best wishes,

I just saw the sheriff of county next to mine where daughtyer works. They have shut down their county. Guess that means they shut ours, too - The sheriff was in Destin/Ft Walton Beach and that's 30 mi south of me. water is over hwy 98, which is a coastal hwy. We are hours from New Orleans - about 5, maybe.

Mary, hunker down.

Sounds like we got out of Florida at the right time then.
Am thinking and praying of you all in its path and hoping you stay safe!! What a nightmare for you all!

Where abouts in the US is Jan at the moment??

Love Emma

Emma,
I think Jan was around New Jersey, but this might be the week they're in New York City.
By the way, we missed you yesterday on Yahoo. I know you don't have it downloaded so it couldn't be helped. Hopefully we'll see you on Chat next Sunday. :)

My prayers are going up for everyone in this terrible path. What a mess a act of nature can create. Thank goodness all we usually have in Missouri is tornado's.

Made landfall at Category 4!

Made landfall at Category 4!

Sitting here in P'cola absolutely disgusgted with this storm! Ann, you're right, the beaches area mess (again). I can't believe how much wind we're getting this far east of New Orleans...It's going to destroy NOLA. We're getting sustained winds currently of 40 mph and conditions are expected to continue deteriorate throughout the day. I keep wondering what is going to happen to all of those above ground cemeteries in NOLA....and the whole city flooded with the Mississippi & Lake Ponchatrain. I pray loss of life is minimal.

And our economies can't take much more of this!
