This is my granddog Scout - best friend, guardian and protecter of my 2 1/2 y.o. granddaughter (see avatar). He is a Great Pyrenees. My sister has a friend who gave Scout to them for free.

Scout just turned 3 mo. old and weighs in at about 35 lbs.

This was a few weeks ago - Scout at 27 lbs, Avery at 20 lbs. Avery was singing Scout songs from her "songbook".

My sister has 2 Great Pyrs and 2 Anatolian Shepherds as herd guard dogs for her alpacas. One of her Pyrs is Scout's 1/2 sister. She got the Anatolians first and then the Pyrs. She said she wishes she had all Pyrs.

Actually Scout could have been mine. But I just didn't want to go through the puppy stage again. So that's how my son and his family got him. I'm satisfied with just being the Grammy.

He's so gifted, at just 3 months he already ringing the bell to go out. (We did that with our dog, put a bell on a ribbon by the door and they are trained to ring it to go out to potty.) Just a proud Grammy!! ;)

My sister told my DIL - Scout will be Avery's guardian. If she leaves the yard (which she's never unattended) Scout will go with her. He won't herd her back home, but he'll keep her safe where ever she goes.

Of course....now I remember. Your Sis, the alpaca lady. Cool.
We have some GPs around here, but they are strictly guarding for Llamas, alpacas, etc.
Looking forward to more pics as they grow and bond. :)

He's all white. His sister had the tan in the ears and head that some Pyrs have.

I used to live with one of those fellows...I frequently work evenings, and like to sleep late. I can't believe it, but I miss the cold nose nudging me at 6:00am. They are a wonderful breed, very protective, but affectionate. One winter morning the fresh snow was so deep I thought he'd just do his business and come right back. Boy was I wrong! He loved the snow, and I chased him over half the neighborhood before getting him home. He should be a wonderful companion for your granddaughter Karlynn.
