Nancy:

Sorry to hear Joe has the shingles. I am very suseptible to the chicken pox virus. I had shingles on my abdomen when I was nursing my 5 month old baby [worn down from getting up at all hours of the night with him!]. Then years later, wham, a horrendous headache, I mean awful!! The specialist was going to do a spinal tap and I said, forget it, just get me the FAMVIR. Now I have a standing prescription for it so that if I feel the symptoms, I can get on the medication ASAP. It happens when I get too run down. I hope it never happens again.

I hope you are feeling lots better now, Joe.

Happy Labor Day to all.

Shingles

The closest we ever came to a divorce was when my hubby had shingles. He was nearly impossible. The thing that really helped was talking to a gal who'd recently gotten over them; she explained that not only do they really hurt, but the pain is different from other pain (and she was quite qualified to address that issue); and one's personality is also affected. That the psychological stress is awful.

Knowing that really helped. Good luck, Nancy and Joe. I know the anti-virals really help.

And John, welcome to our site.

Hi Nancy, Sorry to hear your honey has the shingles. I hear its very painful. My older brother had them a few years ago.

I noticed that you live upstate. What part? My husband is toying around with the idea of moving upstate. Around the Greene County Area.

Oh, I like the new picture with the two of you. You both look great.

Hi Caitlin-

Thanks for the kind words, I'm not as "saintly" as I look, LOL:p

I do, however, have a very soft spot in my heart for folks with these kinds of problems.

Glad you found the guidelines useful.

Joe's shingles are clearing up wonderfully, thanks to getting him on Famvir in time. He has no more temperature, the redness has abated by about two-thirds. The scabs and remnants of blisters will probably be there for a while. But he has no excruciating pain.

So, if anyone ever has shingles, don't fool around. Get help at the first inkling that something is wrong. Famvir helps, but it has to be taken very soon after the first sight of the rash, or it's useless.

How's the heat in the desert? We're starting to get cool here in northern New York. I thought winter just left here.

Hi Joe and Nancy,

Hope that the medicine is helping the shingles. That is a very painful issue. Follow the medical advice carefully.

Happy Ticking in Western Ohio
