Ok nice lady with the 4.4 INR. What is your total weekly dose taken as of this testing?

I don't even know anymore! I took 7.5 Wed. and Thurs... Mon. and Tues. I took 10... I think Sun. I took 10.. Fri. and Sat. took 5. Sorry to go backwards, it was easier to recall for some reason! The nurse said to keep taking 7.5 for the weekend and retest Monday. She seemed concerned that I wasn't more concerned this time, but I'm just a little confused. My moment of clarity about dosing has seem to vanish! So, any advice? Agree, disagree..?

At least one other person had mentioned it, and I had been thinking to myself that I should try it.. so, hopefully that will work. The nurse seems to think that the antib is affecting it, but from what everyone here says, it shouldn't. Guess I'll still retest Monday, that will be after 5 days of 7.5 and see how it's going.

Sounds like a good plan.

I normally take 10/day. But there are times where, for reasons unknown, I have to cut my dose back for a week or two. I'm guessing with 7.5/day for 5 days - you may find they you are on the lower side of your range. But we'll see. This is almost as entertaining as a board game. (Just kidding!!!)

Halley, usually the INR dosing is SO SIMPLE.....but when you throw a new antibiotic in the plan and change your exercise routine, then it's common to have some adjustment.
Hang in there. I'm still voting for the 7.5 mg over the weekend.

This is the longest thread! Just wanted to say I took all of your advice about staying on 7.5, tested today and was 2.9! I actually like to stay on the other side of 3.0, so she said I could take 10 mg Tues. and Thurs. But, 2.9 isn't so bad, I'll take it, at least for today ;) Thanks again for all of the advice/help!

Halley,
Just a suggestion......this is what I do on a weekly basis.....write down the coumadin dosage that you take on a daily basis on your calendar or if you have Microsoft Outlook on your PC, enter the dosages on your weekly calendar there. That way, you can easily see exactly what dosage you followed that week & when you check your INR, you can easily tell if you need to increase or decrease.

I'm one of those fortunate ones that has my own home tester & this is what I do on a weekly basis. My normal dose is 6 days on 10mg & 1 day on 7.5. I usually test on Sundays & when I test, I always write the reading on my calendar as well. The home monitors though, keep a record of your INR readings but it's easier for me to just look at my calendar.

Hope your INR levels stabilize soon! :)

Thanks again, njean, Bina and Ross... I actually was wondering about 10 mg twice a week. Maybe I'll just try it once as suggested and see how that does. You all are such a huge help, don't know what I'd do without such great advice!

I truly think 10mg 2x will put you over and then whomever will want to make some ridiculous cut and start the yo yo effect going.
