Bryan, I'm glad you know about it. It would stink to go into surgery with an infection. Hey, the luck of the Irish is with you after all.

Well, the good news is that I'm not "freaked out" today. :D

I talked with my cardio's nurse this morning and she said that she would pass my concerns on to Dr. Waldo and call me back if they needed me to come in earlier than 3PM. No call so far, so I guess they aren't "freaked out" either. :D

As far as the possibility of getting to surgery without the infection detected, I honestly don't think that would have happened. That's why they are doing the bloodwork today (I just thought they may have wanted to push it up a day when I found the lesion), and I know they do bloodwork before the surgery. I bet that it needs to come out "spot on" before they give the OK for surgery.

Thanks for everyone's advice, it's really helped me "defreak". I'll let you know if my cath is on or not this evening.

Well if it's not, give me a call, I'll do your cath. That way you can relax and not fuss over this so much. :D

LOL Ross, do you take insurance?

Well, so far so good. My cardio thinks that since I've been on a maintenance dose of Cipro and was on the Levaquin for 10 days (and now back on the Cipro) that the lesion I have is not being caused by "dying strep enzymes" and may have been caused by the Levaquin itself. I had my pre-admission EKG and blood test and will report to the hospital at 6AM. I'm ready, nerves are in check pretty well, let's do this thing.

:D

As for all the freaking out...I think that comes from being sick for 4 months before they figured out I had endocarditis. Also, my docs don't seem to be used to patients like me (and many of us here) who try to learn enough about my/our condition to be able to understand what's going on and add valuable input. If they would have listened to me during my previous illness they probably would have diagnosed the endocarditis a month earlier (don't know if that would have made any difference). It's also hard not to be a little paranoid when so many symptoms of endocarditis are the same as less serious conditions and they don't know how I contracted it.

Anyway, I'm actually happy that the cath won't be postponed as long as my bloodwork turned out ok...knock on wood.

Tell them what choice of music you want to listen to while their doing their thing. If you let the Doc or the rest of the crew choose, you may be very bored. I had em through some Led Zeppelin on, worked for me anyway. ;)

I doubt they will have anything I would really like to hear (one of my nicknames is grungehead). :D

But any classic rock would be ok too. I got a feeling that under the influence of Versed I'll be easy to please. :p

This thread is officially closed. Cath was performed successfully this morning...and I didn't freak out. :D

See Pre-Surgery for details. But I did fail to mention over there the music selection. It was mello classic rock.

:D
